Anti-tobacco bill soon

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

The Election Commission is set to hold polls for three Rajya Sabha seats from Assam on February 7.According to information available with assamtimes, the country’s poll panel is expected to issue poll notification on January 21 for the three seats. The results are expected on the voting day.Notably, the term for three sitting Rajya Sabha members will end in March this year. Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik has convened a day long session of the Assam Legislative Assembly on February 10. Dr Bhagawan Goswami’s body was recovered in Panbazar nine days after the Cotton College professor went missing from Chandmari in Guwahati. Assam state BJP called the dissidence against chief minister Tarun Gogoi a drama to cover up the failure on all fronts.Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Sunday, state party president Sarbananda Sonowal said that the growing dissidence was nothing but a drama required by the government to cover up the misdeeds and multiple failures.   He said that these drama would have little impact on the people.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday dared Dinesh Prasad Goala to make public the copy of a resolution brought against him in the last special CLP meeting in Dispur.Gogoi made the open challenge a day after the former minister openly revolted against the chief minister alleging simmering discontent within the party legislators.But Gogoi told the reporters that the special CLP meeting never brought any no-trust motion against him. The CLP meet on October 19 in Dispur resolved to mend the dissidence and pledged to unitedly fight the upcoming general polls to ensure 12 seats out of 14.
