Anti-tobacco bill soon

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

Police have identified the two youths a day after they died in the explosion in Umrangsu on their way to Guwahati with explosives inside their car on Friday.Police sources confirmed that the duo were Sahabuddin and Ainuddin. Sahabuddin was engaged in a coal mine in Meghalaya.   Both they were believed to have carried explosives to Guwahati at the instance of ULFA-I in the run to the Republic Day celebration.

Amid stepped up security measures ahead of the Republic Day, a major tragedy averted in Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district when security forces defused a powerful grenade on Friday.The handgrenade was found lying inside a bag just behind the Dhekiajuli ASTC bus stand in the morning. The Asom Gana Parishad is in a mood to forge a pre poll alliance with BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Led by its president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, an AGP delegation is camping in New Delhi to explore the possibility of forging the alliance.
