Anti-tobacco bill soon

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

Nido case report in HC

The Centre and Delhi government are expected to file reports on the sensational killing of Nido Tania before the Delhi High Court on Wednesday.Acting on a suo moto case, the high court on Monday asked the Centre, Delhi Government to file affidavit on the recent dreaded attack on Nido Tania where the victim died. Police have so far arrested six perpetrators during the last 24 hours. Three were remanded to judicial custody while two others would be produced before a local court on Wednesday.

Tragedy for the Ghatowars

Union minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar’s daughter in law is believed to have died of cardiac arrest.According to information, Lija Ghatowar, the wife of Pranjal Ghatowar was rushed to the Sanjeevani Hospital in Dibrugarh after she was found unconscious inside her room in the evening. But the hospital authorities declared her brought dead.Pranjal married Lija only a few months back. Ghatowar is arriving in his residence on Wednesday. A pall of gloom has descended in the area following the sudden and premature death of the Union minister.

Businessman kidnapped

Suspected NDFB-S militants unleashed a reign of terror in Chirang district when they kidnapped a businessman from Runikhata on Tuesday.Sources told Assam Times that identified as Anup Das, the 40 year old businessman was kidnapped at gunpoint from his residence in the afternoon.Search operation is in progress to trace out him. But nobody has so far given the family members any clue. The entire area has been witnessing incidents of murder, kidnap and extortion by the Bodo militant outfit at regular intervals.  

Hang miscreants: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind kejriwal said that the miscreants involved in Nido Tani’s murder should be hanged.Joining the dharna organized by the north east students at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, the AAP leader said that racist attack in New Delhi is a national problem and that only capital punishment can help the capital reduce these incidents.

2 more Nido killers held

Delhi police on Tuesday arrested two more miscreants involved in the killing of Nido Tania hours after Union home minister assured north east students of firm action against the perpetrators.But the main culprit is still on the run. Earlier on Tuesday, three others were sent to the jail day after the trio were held in connection with the lyncing of the Arunachal Pradesh student.

Jail for Nido killers

A local court in New Delhi on Tuesday sent the three miscreants accused in the murder of Nido Tania to jail hardly 24 hours after they were arrested.But that’s not all. The north east students in the capital demand CBI probe into the allegations of police lapse. The student delegation told Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde to institute a judicial probe into the allegations against the policemen on the spot.  

AGP moves EC against CM

The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad on Tuesday moved state election commission alleging gross violation of constitution by two Congress leaders in the run up to the Rajya Sabha polls.The regional party in its complaint has accused chief minister Tarun Gogoi and his education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma of violating the constitution to ensure smooth sailing of the BPF candidate Biswajeet Daimary in the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls.

The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad on Tuesday has issued whip to its party legislators to vote for Haidor Hussain in the Rajya Sabha polls slated for February 7. The three line whip is being issued to all party legislators three days ahead of the polls. A legislator would forfeit his seat if he or she violates the party whip.
