Anti-tobacco bill soon

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

A senior official of a hotel in the heart of Guwahati city has been missing from Thursday.According to information, general manager with the Hotel Hornbill in Paltanbazar area in the city Niranjan Chatterjee has been remaining untraced since Thursday afternoon.In the FIR filed by his family member, his wife has suspected it to be a case of kidnapping.

CBI probe into Bihali killing

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will recommend CBI probe into the Bihali incident where 10 villagers from Assam were gunned down by the miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh.Gogoi, who was on a stock-taking visit to Bihali on Thursday talked to his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart where the duo agreed to seek a high level probe.

FIR against dist council member

The Sonitpur police have registered a case against a district council member in Arunachal Pradesh in connection with the Wednesday’s Bihali firing where 10 villagers died.According to sources, police filed a suo moto case against Balijan district council member Nabam Ekka charging him with aiding and abetting the miscreants who attacked the camp in the afternoon.    On the other hand, protesters have demanded the Arunachal Pradesh government to hand over the miscreants within the next 48 hours. They further asked adequate compensation to the victims’ family members.  

LS polls: 6 names cleared

Apart from Pawan Singh Ghatowar in Dibrugarh and Gaurav Gogoi in Kaliabor, AICC screening panel has cleared the names of Ranee Narah from Lakhimpur, Biren Singh Engti from Diphu.Chaired by Sushil Kumar Shinde, the screening panel further has finalized Bijoy Krishna Handique in Jorhat, Wazed Ali Chaudhury in Dhubri.  The names were cleared on Wednesday night at the meeting convened at the residence of Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde presence of APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and AICC general secretary in charge of Assam Dr CP Joshi.
