The government has claimed to be spending huge amount of money for development of the Assam-Nagaland border areas. But the real development is far away. People in the remote area of Gelakey border areas are living in a deplorable condition; Lahdoigarh, Sunapur, Borhollah, Singibill etc. of Gelakey border areas under Nazira sub-division are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of proper road, bridge, water, electricity etc. The so called Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme is not able to reach these areas till today.
Nagaland has already occupied over 1000 Bighas of forest land of Assam. They have set-up one polling station at Borhollah in their recently held general election. According to the villagers of these areas, till today there is no any clear distinction or sign between the cadastral revenue village and forest-land in the border areas.
To prevent the Naga aggression in Gelakey border the state govt. set-up 3 nos. og BOPs (Border Out Post) at Singibill, Borhollah and Sunapur in 2007, but till today the quantity of battalions in these three BOPs are not adequate and the battalions who deployed here are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of basic amenities like drinking water, light and infrastructure. The tube-well of Borhollah BOP is the only source of drinking water of entire Borhollah Village.

Talking to Assam Times, the CLP leader said a section of the people from Nagaland has been trying to grab plots on the territory of Assam in the name of the greater Nagalim. Veteran Congress leader in Nazira Tonkeshwar Saikia breath his last at his own residence of Nazira Simaluguri on Thursday. He was 81 and survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter. Saikia, the elder brother of former Assam chief minister Hiteswar Saikia died of prolonged illness. Many political leaders, organizations and individuals have deeply condoled his death. Veteran Left leader and former MLA Drupad Gohain condoled the death of the octogenerian social workers.
71th Independence Day was observed with traditional gaity and flavour in different places of Nazira Sub division. The main event was held at Nazira playground, where civil administration organised the Independence Day with a day long programme. SDO(C) Dr. Sadnek Singh hoisted the National Flag after swahid tarpan at Nazira Gandhi Maidan. A slew of stringent measures has been failing to prevent the illegal opium trading from proliferating in some pockets of upper Assam. On the occasion of the 68th Republic Day all citizens pf our country salute our National Flag and hoisted the Tricolour everywhere as a mark of Honour to it. But it is regret to say that due to the negligence of the teachers of the 310 No Molagaon government L.P. School of Nazira the Tricolour was lying down in the ground and latter Nazira administration recovered it with the police of Nazira police station.Investigation is going on in this regard but no case is registered for it in Nazira police station till today.
The 68th Republic Day observed in different places of Nazira Sub division. Despite the boycott appeals of several outfit organisations thousands of peoples were observed this Historic Day and participated in the Republic Day programmes. The central Flag Hosting function were held at the Play Ground of Nazira where Nazira SDO Dr.Sadnek Singh hoisted the Tricolour at 9 AM. On the other hand, two bombs were blasted at Dholban and Bihubor of Nazira by suspected ULFA militants. No causality have been reported. Police tightened the security to nab the culprits.
