The government has claimed to be spending huge amount of money for development of the Assam-Nagaland border areas. But the real development is far away. People in the remote area of Gelakey border areas are living in a deplorable condition; Lahdoigarh, Sunapur, Borhollah, Singibill etc. of Gelakey border areas under Nazira sub-division are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of proper road, bridge, water, electricity etc. The so called Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme is not able to reach these areas till today.
Nagaland has already occupied over 1000 Bighas of forest land of Assam. They have set-up one polling station at Borhollah in their recently held general election. According to the villagers of these areas, till today there is no any clear distinction or sign between the cadastral revenue village and forest-land in the border areas.
To prevent the Naga aggression in Gelakey border the state govt. set-up 3 nos. og BOPs (Border Out Post) at Singibill, Borhollah and Sunapur in 2007, but till today the quantity of battalions in these three BOPs are not adequate and the battalions who deployed here are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of basic amenities like drinking water, light and infrastructure. The tube-well of Borhollah BOP is the only source of drinking water of entire Borhollah Village.

The Nazira unit of All Assam Minority Students’ Union took out a huge rally on Saturday in protest against Dr Subramaniam Swamy’s visit to the state.Hundreds of AAMSU activists hit the streets in Nazira shouting slogans against the BJP leader who allegedly has been trying to create communal clash in the state. Nazira All Assam Minority Students Union felicitated the newly elected ward civic body members at a function on Sunday. Presided over by AMSU President Farukuddin Ahmed, the speakers hoped that the new members would spare no pain to deliver the goods. The senior citizens asked the newly elected ward members to work in a constructive way for the all round development of the town. BJP got 6 seats while Congress got only 4 in Nazira and the BJP will form the next municipal board of Nazira.
Municipal elections along with the rest of the state were also held for 10 seats in Nazira and 8 seats in Simaluguri on February 9. The candidates now eagerly await the results scheduled for February 12. The Tarun Gogoi led Congress government is confident of winning all the 18 seats while the BJP on the other hand too is sure of capturing the same. While this appears to be an overstatement by one of the parties or both, the public are of the view that the Congress are all in shape to form the next municipal body in Nazira and Simaluguri.
