5 MLAs to join BJP

After Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, five sitting Congress legislators are believed to have been preparing to join BJP on August 28.

Three of them have been camping in New Delhi to clear the formalities. According to unconfirmed reports, parliamentary secretary Balin Chetia, Nalbari MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah and Jonai MLA Pradan Baruah are preparing to follow Dr Sarma who unofficially joined BJP on Sunday.

Dr Sarma along with his associates are set to join BJP on August 28 when the party wll be holding a huge rally in Guwahati.

32 years of Assam Accord

 Thirty two years have passed since the Assam Accord was signed to detect and deport the illegal migrants. But thr crucial phase of the historic pact remains unimplemented. 

All Assam Student Union (AASU) activists across the held huge meetings on Monday demanding immediate measures to implement the accord in letter and spirit. 

AASU leaders in Guwahati slammed the Centre alleging lack of good will to make Assam a Bangladeshi free state. They said they would have no option but to resume agitation. With 32 earthen lamps AASU observed the 32 years of the pact which remained unimplemented. 

An AASU meeting in Namrup asked the centre and state to implement the historic Accord to safeguard the interest of the indigenous people. 

Kalpadeep Mohan presided over the meeting attended by   Kalpajit Gogoi, Manash jyoti Changmai . Thirty two notable persons from different fields Spiritual , Religious , Education , Media person , Literature , etc lit 32 earthen lamps.

Strength for embattled BJP

A circle of Congress MLAs and former student leaders are all set to join BJP. This was more or less of what a senior BJP leader said.

He told Assam Times that these sitting Congress MLAs are in close touch with the central leaders. Once the green signal is received, they would be invited to Delhi for finalizing the deal.

Former AGP leader Pulakesh Baruah has already joined the party. Then they would be free to join the party hardly a year before the assembly polls. 


Hatigaon ( Dispur) Police Station officer in charge suspended for contempt of Court

Guwahati: City Superintendent of Police has suspended Mr Utpal Das officer in charge of Hatigaon out post under Dispur Police Station.

The city SSP was forced to suspend him as a lower court has issued a non bailable warrant against him for contempt of court. The contempt of court case has been slapped against him as he was not following the courts instructions in an earlier case related to a land dispute.
