Teacher abducted from school

A lower primary school teacher was abducted by some unknown men from his school in Kowani situated at the remote border area along the border of Golaghat-Karbi Anglong district today. 55-year-old Gobind Goswami, the Head Master of No.2 Kowani Paharline LP School was abducted from his school premise by a group of three armed Adivasi youth at around 1.30 pm. Nabakanta Goswami, the son of abducted Gobind Goswami received a phone call from his father where the later disclosed about his abduction and since then there has been no communication between them.


Family sources revealed that there has been no extortion demand and the family has appealed to the abductors to release Goswami safe and sound at the earliest. Meanwhile senior police officials has arrived at the spot and started massive search operation in the area. Local people has suspected the abduction to be the handy work of anti talk fraction of All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA) It is to be noted that Kowani is a large area with a majority of adivasi population and is regarded as a stronghold of AANLA. But there is no Police presence in the locality and a construction of a police station has been going on for the last two years. This is not the first instance of abduction and extortion and as such the people has placed a strong demand for a police outpost at the earliest.
