Bandh called off : Curfew continues
Following an assurance from Home Commissioner, Dispur, the Indigenous Village Chiefs’ Forum (IVCF) Indigenous Women Forum (IWF) and Indigenous Students’ Forum (ISF) under the banner of Indigenous People’s Forum (IPF) called off their indefinite N C Hills (Dima Hasao) bandh on Wednesday at 12.30pm, but the indefinite curfew continued till the filing of this report.
The Indigenous Village Chiefs’ Forum (IVCF) Indigenous Women Forum (IWF) and Indigenous Students’ Forum (ISF) under the banner of Indigenous People’s Forum (IPF) had called for the 48 hours N C Hills (Dima Hasao) bandh in protest against the signing of Memorandum of Settlement with DHD and the Governments, from 5 am of Thursday to 5 am of Saturday.
Following a group clash between Bandh supporters and DHD (J) on Friday last, during the bandh, the police was forced to open fire with rubber bullets to disperse the mob and there after the district magistrate Dima Hasao district imposed curfew for indefinite period. Then the 48 hours bandh was also extended for indefinite. On Monday, curfew was relaxed for four hours from 11 am to 3 pm and during the relaxation period, several incidents of violence like burning of mo-bike, destroying of auto, stone pelting on public and police were reported from Haflong and Harangajao. On Tuesday, curfew was not relaxed.
Talking to the media Hlima Keivoum, President, ISF disclosed that the Home Commissioner, Govt of Assam has invited them to attend a meeting at Dispur on Thursday at 12 noon for a talk on their demands and givances. They also regretted the sufferings of the people during their bandh and said they were compelled to.

Rising incidents of Man-animal conflict has spread in Dima Hasao also, killing one 60 years old man of Khrumingdisa village under Umrangso Police station on Friday.
