Abhiruchi Sports Day at Golaghat

Along with the rest of the state, Jaihind club has celebrated the 29th Abhiruchi Sports Day at Golaghat today to mark the birthday of Assam’s first Arjuna Award winner Bhogeswar Barua. On the occasion a prize money marathon was organised on all Assam basis where more than 300 athletes from all over the state participated. The 10-km mini marathon was flagged off at 7 am by Sanjib Gohain Barua, Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat in presence of Additional SP of Jorhat Bedanta Prakash Borkakoty, Sanjib Handique, Secretary Golaghat Dist. Sports Association and Parikhit Dutta, Joint Secreatry Golaghat Dist. Sports Association. Borkakoty also participated in the marathon to motivate the participants. Bodhen Kalita of Pathshala and an employee of Golaghat Fire Service Station was the first to cross the finish line followed by Bijoy Deka and Janu Kandh of Jorhat at 2nd and 3rd postion respectively. Sunil Orang finished first and Bitupon Bora and Sunil Orang finished 2nd and 3rd in Boys Junior group whereas Pompy Bora, Pinky Bora and Gyanolika Bora have secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position in the race.

A self styled Sergeant Major of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) was arrested from Borjan Lakhibari area of Golaghat District on the night of 4th July. Acting on a tip off, a team of Police and CRPF led byNumal Mahatto, Additional Superintendent of Police arrested the ULFA cadre.
