Kamrup Express damaged in IED explosion in railway tracts

Suspected Adivasi militants strike with a powerful explosion on a railway tract in Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district damaging the Kamrup Express on Tuesday.

According to information, it was an improvised explosive device which missed the Kamrup Express target and exploded at Gharialdubi near Bokajan.

The explosion took place when the Dibrugarh bound Kamrup Express was at a stone’s throw distance. The blast has left the train driver injured besides partially damaging the engine room with window panes with two computers in the driver’s room.

The driver is said to be out of danger. Immediately after the incident, top ranked police, civil and railway offiials rushed to the spot and the train was held up for more than two hours as the tracks were also damaged. Later on these have been repaired and train services have been restored.

Notably, the Adivasi National Liberation Army (ANLA) militants has recently threatened to strike following the mob violence in Beltola area in the city.

The extremists outfit further warned the all adivasi MPs and MLAs in Assam of dire consequences if they fail to step down in the aftermath of the November 24 violence.

The ANLA also threatened more attacks on the tea gardens on tea gardens and asked the tea garden people to boycott the upcoming panchayat elections.
