Cong to get prepared for snap polls

Assam Congress virtually gets ready for mid term Lok Sabha polls and will soon draw up its strategies to steal the show.

Speaking to Assam Times, party’s senior leaders here say the rural body polls slated for December will be a spadework for the Lok Sabha polls for the party.

“We are in touch with the party’s top leaders and will draw up Lok Sabha poll strategies once we receive green signal from the party high command,” they say.

In yet another development, Assam Chief Minister has asked the party men to get themselves prepared for the Lok Sabha poll saying it may be a mid term one.

Addressing a the party office bearers in blocks and districts in the city here recently, Mr Gogoi has said Lok Sabha polls may be held any time in 2008 given the uneasy relationship between the Left parties and the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

“I have already told the AICC president and UPA chaiperson Sonia Gandhi that we are getting ready for Lok Sabha polls. Therefore, the spadework should begin right from the panchayat polls,” said Mr Gogoi.
