ASDC demands for election to DHAC

The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) Dima Hasao District Committee demanded the holding of general election to Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) in the scheduled time i.e. in November/December 2012, expressing strong opposition to the attempt made by the present Executive Committee of the DHAC, to extend the 5 year term of their office in the DHAC on some pretext, stated a press release issued by the President, ASDC Dima Hasao District Committee, Haflong, Sri Rathindra Thaosen.

The ASDC District Committee also flayed DHAC for its failure to make regular payment of salaries of the “Normal employees” of the Council and to clear the gratuity and arrears of the retired “Normal employees”. Further, the party took strong exception to the Government of India, Assam Government and present Congress-I-ruled DHAC for the delay in repairing the roads, bridges, irrigation canals and embankments, agricultural fields etc. that were badly damaged by the landslides and floods during the incessantly heavy downpour in the recent past. The party alleged that even the S.S. road which now forms the makeshift road, owing to the main road being in total destruction in the last heavy downpour, from Haflong to Maibang/Mahur/Laisong were still in bad shape and on account of it, the people travelling from Haflong to Maibamg/Mahur/ Laisong and vice-versa were facing untold miseries, release added.
