Amiya Bora joins BJP

Senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Amiya Bora today joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a glittering ceremony held at Golaghat Amateur Theatre Hall. BJP‘s national general secretaries Vijay Goel and Kiran Maheswari flew down specially from Delhi to welcome Amiya Bora into the party. Bora is counted amongst the founder members of AGP and was a member of AGP’s Core Committee. He played a vital role in formation of AGP in Golaghat in 1985 and was AGP’s candidate from Golaghat in the last assembly election.

Describing the event as a proud one for BJP, Goel said that in the form of Sarbananda Sonowal the party had discovered its “Lakshman” and in Bora the saffron brigade further discovered its “Ram” and the party is hopeful that both Bora and Sonowal will carry the party’s prospect very much in the state. “When I was the President of Delhi University Students Union I used to be a fan of Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and but the same Mahanta when came to power has failed to implement the Assam Accord after twice coming to power. The AGP had only betrayed the Assamese people and compromised its ideals and principles for vote bank” Goel further said. Enthused at having Bora in party ranks, Ranjit Dutta, BJP’s Assam State President said that with the joining of Bora the party is confident of putting up a good show in the forthcoming Panchayat Election. Justifying his decision to leave AGP, Bora said, “BJP has got some long term goals and I support BJP’s principles and ethics.BJP is the only national party which has supported Assam Movement and I am hopeful of solving the regional problems with BJP by my side because the development of Assam is not possible without Delhi’s aid”. It is to mention that around one thousand AGP workers also joined BJP along with Bora. The induction ceremony was attended by MLAs of Dibrugarh and Doomdooma Prasanta Phukan and Dilip Moran respectively, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa among others.
