“Bhugali Mela” at Ranghar Pavilion by Tai-Ahom Yuba Parishad

The Sivasagar district committee of The Tai-Ahom Yaba Parishad” is organising “ Bhugali Mela” at historical “Ranghar” , the first pavilion of Asia on January 16. In this exhibition the traditional “Buffloo fight” and the traditional ethnic dances will be exhibited. An souvenir will also be released on that occasion.


The speaker of Asaam Assembly, Pranab Gogoi will inaugurate the function. The governor of Bihar Mr.Debananda Konwer and the Chairman of Tai-Ahom development council Dr. Jugen Phukon will present as a guest of honour and Chief guest.

Punaram Mili, an employee of Assam Asset, is the first Assamese, who elected as president of All India Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Tribe welfare Association. He was selected from the 22 basin or Asset of ONGC, situated at different locations of our country. In this fight, Mili has defeated N.V. Bakhava of Gujrat with lager margins. Mai-Kau-Sum-Phai is organised as the traditional festival of Tai community of Budha religion at Lakwa-Chola-Shyam Gaon on February 7 with day-long programme. Table tennis player and journalist Nilim Chowdhury memorial Upper Assam Table Tennis Tournament has started from January 21 at Dibrugarh Indoor Stadium. Scholar of Tai language, historian, litterateur and literary pensioner of Chetia Gaon of Lakhimpur town, Aijep Phukan died due to cardiac arrest at Dispur Nursing home on January 21 at an age of 75 years. He was born at Jalukkota-Narayanpur of Lakhimpur in 1943. Late Phukan dedicated his life for the development of Tai culture and literature. “Swadhinota Jujaru Chowfalung Urofe Ranuwa Gohainsi”, “Akhamor Atit Aru Bortomaan”, Tai Sankskritir Jilikoni”, Mohabibir Lachit Borphukan” are some noted book published by Phukon. In separate road accidents on Friday, 2 persons died on spot and 3 were seriously injured. One was at Suffry, Sonari where a Maruti 800 of Ghana Gogoi of ONGC was hit by a TATA Sumo (without number plate) from back. As a result the Maruti car was badly damaged and Handique badly injured. Though Gogoi was admitted to the Charaidew Sub-Division Civil Hospital at Rojabari could not be saved. The Tata Sumo was hired by Army personals, who are in civil dress and fled from the spot after the accident. The other accident was at Hatighuli of Gaurisagar on National highway 37.
