Regional conclave of INC at Golaghat
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee today held its second regional conclave at Golaghat. The first exercise of this kind was held in Bongaigaon on 29th July. The conclave is being held to chalk out the party's strategy for the upcoming Panchayat and Municipal election as also to review the implementation of their election manifestos and to make an assessment of the organizational aspects of the party. The conclave was inaugurated by APCC President Bhubaneswar Kalita in the presence of Forest and Environment Minister Rockybul Hussain, PWD Minister Ajanta Neog, Haren Das Secretary APCC, Captain Robin Bordoloi, Deep Gogoi MP Kalibaor Loksabha Constituency and elected representatives of Golaghat, Morigaon, Nagaon and Karbi-anglong . The Conclave recognized the need of the party to consolidate in its areas of influence and to rapidly increase its presence in all parts of the sate by strengthening the organization and enhancing the interconnect amongst the leaders, workers and the masses.
The meeting did not merely take stock of the accomplishments of the State Governments and the extent to which the promises made in the manifesto have been implemented. The idea clearly is to ensure that the Congress is viewed as being ``both responsible and responsive in Government''
In the conclave three resolutions were adopted such as political, economical and organizational. On the issues of corruption Kalita said that the Congress Party is committed to wipe out corruption from its root and even in their election manifesto it was clearly stated that their govt. will take stringent measures to tackle corruption in various spheres of the society. When asked by the media persons about Anna Hazare’s movement for Janlokpal Bill, Kalita said that much before Anna Hazare’s movement the congress party had introduced the idea of a Lokpal Bill and for that a sub-committee headed by leading social activist Aruna Roy was formed in 2004, in which Anna Hazare and his team were also members. But due to some misunderstanding Anna Hazare and his team drifted away and they formulated draft of Janlokpal Bill. He further said that whatever decision will be taken by Loksabha his party will accept.
