APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita downplayed the NDTV opinion poll saying that these are not true.Talking to reporters in the sidelines of a function in Guwahati on Saturday, Kalita said that each of the elections are some challenges and that it is not easy to win an election.It assumes significance two days after NDTV opinion predicts absolute majority for NDA and the poll suggest clean sweep for Congress.
Railway police foiled a nefarious blueprint of a car bomb explosion when they seized a huge consignment of explosives in Paltanbazar on Saturday.Acting on a tip off, railway police in Paltanbazar picked up three persons from a train and seized these explosives from their possession.During interrogation, they are believed to have confessed that these explosives were meant for NDFB-S to be exploded a powerful car bomb. Interrogation is in progress.
Tension is simmering near Diphu after a group of people clashed with police at Matipung forest on Saturday.The incident took place when over 100 landless people were trying to occupy a plot of land earlier Congress leader and Diphu candidate Biren Singh Ingty received from the government.Police resorted to blank firing to disperse the local residents immediately after they locked in a clash with the illegal settlers.Then senior police and civil officials arrived in the spot and the situation was brought under control.

Dispur police arrested Akhil Gogoi in a fresh case on Saturday before the court of chief judicial magistrate in Kamrup had sent the KMSS president to the jail.Gogoi was produced before the CJM court in the morning where he was remanded to judicial custody for yet another period of 14 days.Gogoi has been languishing in jail from March 5 after five days in police custody in connection with the self immolation of a KMSS activist. Poachers are believed to have been targeting a rhino in Jorhat district after it strayed out of Kaziranga on Friday.The animal struck attention of the local villagers at an open paddy field at Jhanjimuk in Teok area on Friday afternoon.But a section of the local residents told Assam Times that they came to see three poachers following the animal.
