After days of will-they-won’t-they, BJP has fielded Marinal Kumar Saikia in Koliabor in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated for April 7.Saikia’s name was finalized on Saturday evening after the Central leadership left it completely on the state leadership.Sources told Assam Times that the state leadership has hardly any interest in this constituency.President Sarbananda Sonowal urged the party leadership not to go for Koliabor where Chief Minister’s son Gaurav Gogoi is in the fray.That’s why, the Centre passed the buck on to Sonowal who had to announce Saikia’s name under pressure from the grass root level.
In a major boost for BJP workers, prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will campaign in the state on March 27.During his day long visit to the state, the Gujarat Chief Minister is scheduled to attend three huge rallies in Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Lakhimpur.This would be his third visit to the state after he was nominated as the prime ministerial candidate.

AIUDF has not announced the second list of candidates on Saturday for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.The party on Saturday morning decided to announce the names of the polls candidates in Silchar, Tezpur, Koliabor, Lakhimpur. Railway police foiled a nefarious blueprint of a car bomb explosion when they seized a huge consignment of explosives in Paltanbazar on Saturday.Acting on a tip off, railway police in Paltanbazar picked up three persons from a train and seized these explosives from their possession.During interrogation, they are believed to have confessed that these explosives were meant for NDFB-S to be exploded a powerful car bomb. Interrogation is in progress.
Tension is simmering near Diphu after a group of people clashed with police at Matipung forest on Saturday.The incident took place when over 100 landless people were trying to occupy a plot of land earlier Congress leader and Diphu candidate Biren Singh Ingty received from the government.Police resorted to blank firing to disperse the local residents immediately after they locked in a clash with the illegal settlers.Then senior police and civil officials arrived in the spot and the situation was brought under control.
