Tension in Matipung

Tension is simmering near Diphu after a group of people clashed with police at Matipung forest on Saturday.

The incident took place when over 100 landless people were trying to occupy a plot of land earlier Congress leader and Diphu candidate Biren Singh Ingty received from the government.

Police resorted to blank firing to disperse the local residents immediately after they locked in a clash with the illegal settlers.

Then senior police and civil officials arrived in the spot and the situation was brought under control.
