Farmers Contact Programme Started In Assam


With a aim to create awareness amongst the famers regarding scientific agriculture and providing on the spot solutions to the farmers’ problem, the Assam Agriculture Department started a unique programme, namely, ‘Gaon loi bolok Karjykhushi ’ ( Let us go the village) throughout the State.


Under this programme, the agricultural officers try to listen to the farmers’ problems at village level.


In this context, such type of programme was held at Arimari L P School, under Kopati ADO circle, Darrang on 12 July last. Large numbers of farmers participated in the programme, where officers from Agriculture Department explained about on going schemes like, National Food Security Mission, Seed Village Programme, Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojona, Green Revolution Programme, National Agricultural Extention Programme, Technology Mission for Horticultural Development, Kissan Credit Card, Agricultural Mechanization programme etc. Bijoy Barua, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Dr. Bangshi Kalita, SDAO, Mowsam Hazarika, DAIO, Jyotish Nath, Sr. ADO, Dipok Deka, ADO, Udhab Deka, ADO, Arup Bora, ADO and many others participated in the programe as resource persion.


Another village programme also held at Borchala village under Debananda Goan Panchayat of Pathorighat Agricultural Sub Division on 5th July last, organized by the Darrang District Agriculture Office. Pratap Singh Bharali, District Agricultural Officer, Darrang attended the programme as a chief guest and highlighted about the key features of the different on going agricultural schemes. He appealed to the farmers to avail opportunities of Kissan Credit Card (KCC). He mentioned that, only 18% of the farmers of Assam using KCC. In this connection, an Agricultural Loan Mela was already organized in Banglagarh Agricultural Development Circle on 24th June last, about Rs. 7.00 lakh agricultural loan was distributed among 31 nos. of farmers on the spot in collaboration with United Bank of India. Bharali said that, similar Agricultural Loan Mela will be organized at village level. Different prospect of Organic Agriculture was highlighted in the programme by Dr. Bangshi Kalita, Sub Divisional Agricultural Officer (Fruit Preservation), Mangaldai. Jyotish Nath , Senior Agricultural Development Officer of Mangaldai explained in the programme about the different beneficial components in the different on going schemes for the farmers. Bijoy Knower, SDAO, Pathorighat ; Mowsam Hazarika, SDAO(Information), Darrang; Robin Talukder, ADO; Nupur Kalita, ADO; Utpol Deka, ADO; Pradip Kumar Tamutli, representative from service bank; Bidya Sahariya of Pother Porichalana Samity etc. participated in the programme as resource person.


Simillar type of programme also held at Mowamari village under Pub Rangamati Agriculture Circle, Mangaldai, Darrang on 24th June last, Bijoy Barua, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Prabhat Saikia, SDAO (Mangaldai), Mahesh Barman, SDAO (Horticulture), Budhin Hazarika, SDAO (Marketing), Mowsam Hazarika, SDAO (Information), Jyotish Nath, Senior Agricultural Development Officer, Roma Kanta Nath, ADO etc. participated in the interaction programme with the farmers.


A street play on National Food Security Mission (Rice), directed by Dilip Nath also performed in the programme.


Several farmers, including women farmers participated in the programme. In this connection, leaflets on different agricultural topics distributed amongst the farmers.

The agriculture department steps up measures to firmly deal with the army worms which wreak huge havocs in many parts of the state. In a letter to District Agricultural Officers and other officials, the department said that army worms or swarming caterpillars have manifested in different areas of the State.
