ULFA serves quit Assam notice to private oil co

The United Liberation Front of Assam has given a private petroleum 45 days ultimatum to quit Assam. In an e-mail statement, ULFA publicity wing leader Arunodoy Dohotia alleged that the Shivani Oil and Gas Exploration Services Private Limited must quit Assam by one and a half month. He alleged that the private oil exploration company has been exploiting Assam's fabulous natural resources safeguarded by the Union Government. Dohotia further threaten armed action against the private oil company if it fails to quit Assam.

Security forces on Saturday arrested an NDFB cadre suspected to have been involved in the July 8 blast which caused the derailing of the Kolkata-bound Garib Rath Express was arrested in Assam’s Chirang district. Sources say patrolling troops of the 15 Dogra Regiment acting on a tip off apprehended the militant identified as Edward Shrampani. A hardcore NDFB rebel died at an encounter with security forces in Sonitpur district of Assam on Saturday. According to information, the encounter took place at around 11 in the morning at Hijuguri under Rongapara police station bordering Arunachal Pradesh. Three other cadres of the Bodo rebel outfit managed to escape during the encounter. The deceased is yet to be identified. Police later recovered an AK-56 rifle along with several rounds of bullets from the spot.
Dispur police claimed to have arrested a hardcore ULFA leader on Thursday. The ULFA militant has been identified as Bijoi Deka (24), son of Naren Deka, a resident of South Gandhibari under Tamulpur police station in Baska district. He was apprehended by Dispur police and 128 bn of CRPF.

Assam RTI activist Akhil Gogoi seems to have shaken Dispur trading charges after charges against health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. In a sensational revelation, Gogoi told reporters that the minister last year purchased two luxurious cars worth Rs 40 lakh within a period of 2 months for his 5-year old daughter. The war of words between Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta touched a new low. A medical student who remained traceless from Guwahati for around 24 hours has been rescued in Siliguri on Wednesday morning. According to information, Kaushik Kotoky, the son of B Barooah Cancer Institute director Dr Amal Kotoky managed to have escaped from the miscreants Siliguri 24 hours after he was kidnapped from his resident in Guwahati.
