ULFA serves quit Assam notice to private oil co

The United Liberation Front of Assam has given a private petroleum 45 days ultimatum to quit Assam. In an e-mail statement, ULFA publicity wing leader Arunodoy Dohotia alleged that the Shivani Oil and Gas Exploration Services Private Limited must quit Assam by one and a half month. He alleged that the private oil exploration company has been exploiting Assam's fabulous natural resources safeguarded by the Union Government. Dohotia further threaten armed action against the private oil company if it fails to quit Assam.

The Central Bureau of Investigation probing the multi crore scam in the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council gets remand of R H Khan after he was produced before a special court on Tuesday. Khan, the social welfare officer who is in judicial custody was produced before the court after a special medical board certified his health fit to be produced before the court. Last week, the country’s premier investigating agency approached the court seeking his remand in connection to the multi crore scam. He was not produced before the special court citing ailment.

A heavy down pour on Sunday midnight has submerged several places in the city of Guwahati with artificial floods. Roads and byelanes in Chandmari, Lachitnagar, Rajgarh, Nabin Nagar, Anil Nagar and Zoo roads have come under artificial floods disrupting normal life from early in the morning on Monday. In several places traffic snarls have made it further difficult for the pedestrians. Till 10 in the morning there are reports of more city area coming under rain waters.

Amid utter confusion cen tring aroud Ulfa-government, former intelligence bureau chief P B Halder held a crucial date with Dr Hiren Gohain in Delhi on Thursday. Both they are understood to have discussed the on going bid to buy peace with ULFA. Dr Gohain, who is leading a delegation of SJA to Delhi reportedly apprised Halder of their discussion with Prime minister and home minister. The development is significant in view of the government's move to appoint Halder as the interlocutor for talk with ULFA.
More trouble brews for Congress leader and former Tezpur MP Mani Kumar Subba. The Central Bureau of Investigation probing Subba's doubtful citizenship case has seized more documents. According to information, a CBI team on Thursday arrived at Tezpur based Sonitpur district office and seized all documents related to Subba. Thereafter the team left for Delhi.
The center is not at all interested general amnesty to the jailed ULFA leaders if BK Handique is to be believed. Talking to reporters on Thursday in Delhi, the Union Minister said that the ULFA must come forward for talk and only then the government would consider the release of the jailed leaders. He said the government is waiting for Paresh Baruah but not indefinitely.
