Veteran Congress leader in Nazira Tonkeshwar Saikia breath his last at his own residence of Nazira Simaluguri on Thursday. He was 81 and survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter. Saikia, the elder brother of former Assam chief minister Hiteswar Saikia died of prolonged illness. Many political leaders, organizations and individuals have deeply condoled his death. 71th Independence Day was observed with traditional gaity and flavour in different places of Nazira Sub division. On the occasion of 48th death anniversary of Kalaguru Brishnu Prashad Rabha on Tuesday, Rava Divas was observed in different places of Nazira region. Freedom fighter, trade union leader and social worker of Nazira Benu Bhuyan breath his last at his own residence on last March 20. He was 85 and survived by his wife and son.
