Noted educationist, journalist Thaneswar Hazarika passes away


Thaneswar Hazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaper died on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise.


Noted educationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise.


Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.

AGP MLA from Sootea Padma Hazarika is likely to quit the party a month after he was suspended for refusing to toe on the party line in the Rajya Sabha polls.Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Hazarika said that his partymen have been asking him to quit AGP. “But formal decision has yet to be taken. Let them know me their decision soon,,” said Hazarika.Hazarika further said that he won’t appeal to the party leadership to forget his suspension.On the other hand, he made it plain and simple that he won’t help Joseph Toppo win in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Recently, party leadership indirectly asked Hazarika to apply for withdrawal of suspension against him.       
The Morigaon district administration has ordered a magisterial probe into the death of a minor boy in police firing at Kordoibeel area on Tuesday.Deputy commissioner issued the order when local residents in large number thronged the Morigaon police station campus in protest against the firing where Biswajeet Bordoloi was killed.The incident took place when police resorted to firing to deal with a group clash at a water body in Tetelia.

A school boy was killed when police fired upon a group of people in Morigaon for illegal fishing at a water body on Tuesday.The incident of merciless police firing took place at Kordoibeel near Jagiroad in the morning when policemen sprang upon the people who were fishing defying all instruction.Identified as Biswajeet Borodoloi, the minor boy died on the spot.  Then hundreds of angry people staged dharna in front of the police station in protest against the incident and demanded action against the guilty police men.
