Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is confident of winning over 60 seats in the assembly polls. But the poll pundits of the ruling party are sure of maximum 50 seats only. A confidential report of the puts the figure at maximum 50. But the report is confident of a Congress I-led government with the support of either BPF or AIUDF. On the other hand BPF is expected to gain from 10 to 13. But they would support only Tarun Gogoi is retained as the Chief Minister. The ruling party has another option: AIUDF is ready to support the government if Bhubneswar Kalita replaces Tarun Gogoi.
However, senior leaders told Assam Times that they were not aware of any confidential report. They said their party would get absolute majority to form the government of their own.

I am partially agree wth Pallavi but not fully.Because I feel, Tarun Gogoi government failed to control the bureaucrats, and the money released for development works, such as in Panchayats level or for any such local bodies were misused by various different offices. And it is found that some people of the village level became a rich men within a night.

Congress is indeed going to stay here whether we want it or not merely by virtue of no suitable alternate is available 4 Assam ! No body wants the old bankrupt regime of AGP back even when Congress Govt has failed on many developmental front !

Bishwajeet, does every body want to have a government to govern who have the records to face the highest corruption cases since last ten years? I dont know. But I am sorry to say that Tarun Gogoi minsitry just tried to stya away from ecery allegation by saying: those who have/had cried against them were/are plotically motivated. And for me whether Congress or AGP or BJP, they are all in the same boat. And for your kind information m not Congressee, not a BJP or AGP or AIUDF member. Just dont mix up conscious mind with politics, like every political party of Assam are doing. Think rationally, think impartially. For me very political party of Assam are not for the common people, people living in the grass root level.

Manipur police seized 300 SP capsules and 11 boxes of N 10 tablets from two individuals on April 16 at around 8 p.m. by Singjamei police , Imphal west from an autorickshaw in which they were travelling, police said today.

Assam goes to repolling in thee assembly constituencies.Polling began at 6 booths from 8 in the morning on Monday in Bhawanipur, Rongia and Udalguri districts. Assamtime poll squad covering these booths see brisk polling where voters remaining lined up to cast their votes. The Election Commission has ordered repolling in these booths in view of major anomalies on April 11. The counting would take place on May 13.
Atleast 7 personnel of Manipur Rifles were killed and other 5 wounded on Friday when heavily armed insurgents suspected to be cadres of the NSCN(IM) ambused a convoy of Phungyar MLA Wunaoshang Keishing. MLA Keishing escaped the attack unhurt. The heavily armed insurgents opened fire on the MLA and his convoy while on there way at Rihang, Ukhrul district, Manipur. The MLA visited Phungyar district to participate at a function. The personnel who were killed in the attack include a post commander and a driver and the convoy belonged to 1st and 6th Manipur Rifles, according to police sources.
An RTI activist has revealed misuse of OBC certificates by sons and daughters of some high-ranking Government officials just to sneak into the state Home Department. Laishram Sanatombi of Yairipok Bishnunaha, Imphal East sought certain information through RTI from the state Home Deparment and the Imphal West Deputy Commissioner on the DPC held last year for recruitment of 72 women SI’s. While seeking information Sanatombi was able to discover about this. This was informed by RTI activist W Joykumar during a press conference held at Imphal on Monday. Once again Ulfa springs surprise. In a significant move that gives Congress some sort of relief, the banned outfit has decided not to give bandh call to disrupt the visitofprime minister Manmohan Singh slated for April 7. This was what Ulfa publicity wing leader Arunodoy Dohotiya announced at a statement e-mailed to assamtimes on Tuesday. The announcement further suggests that ULFA will not oppose the visit of Dr Singh on April 11 to cast his vote in Dispur. It may be recalled that for the first time Ulfa has not urged the people not to participate in the poll process.
For the first time, the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has not urged the people to partitipate in the election. But only threatened to target the Congress accusing the ruling party of splitting the outfit. The overground cadres of ULFA have not exercise their franchise in the Assam Assembly polls.
