International Women’s Day observed at Rangaloo

International Women’s Day was observed at Gram Vikash Parishad’s Head Office, Rangaloo jointly by Jan Sikshan Sansthan, Nagaon, Gram Vikash Parishad and Social Welfare Department of Nagaon on 8th March 2011. To mark this auspicious occasion a day long programme was held. Officers from different departments of the district and well known persons were present in the open session presided over by Md. Siraj Uddin Ahmed General Secretary of Gram Vikas Parishad. Valuable speeches were delivered by the eminent guest speakers including Mrs Jarjina Begum (Retired Subject Teacher), Moni Deepa Saikia (District Social Welfare Officer), Rosie Kalita (Additional S.P. Nagaon), Dr. Roslin Zahan (Professor Nagaon Girls College), Based Ali (Asstt. Teacher Rangoloo High School), Abdul Munnaf (President, Gram Vikas Parishad), Rumi Begum (Senior Supervisor Kathiatali ICDS Project), emphasizing over the main objective of observing Women’s Day, women empowerment and awareness.


On this occasion tree plantation, devotional song, drawing competition and a one act play performed by JSS & GVP staff written and directed by Kajol Choudhury were one of the important parts of the day long programme including open session. Few eminent social workers felicitated on this occasion were Nagaon Zila Mahila Congress Committee president Mrs. Eliza Ahmed, District Social Welfare Officer Ms. Moni Deepa Saikia and senior advocate and former lecturer of Nagaon Law College Mrs. Deepa Saikia.


More than three hundred women participants were gathered in a slide presentation based on International Women’s Day celebration theme of the year 2011, ‘Equal access to Education, training and science and technology, pathway to decent work place for women’ Md. Mritunjoy 108 workers took part in the open session and spoke about the first aid- precautionary measures to be taken at emergency.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has written to the Election Commission alleging objectionable publicity by BJP after the end of poll campaing in the Lok Sabha polls in the state.In a letter, Gogoi alleged before the poll panel that the opposition party on April 23 in a huge display vernacular dailies made a number of leading publicity against his government. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday said that he would reshuffle his council of ministers after the end of the poll process. Talking to reporters in the sidelines of a function in Guwahati, Gogoi said that he would have to contact AICC for reshuffle.“Let the election process end. I will look into it. I will have to talk to AICC after the end of the poll process,” said Gogoi. Gogoi’s remark assumes significance at a time when a circle of party MLAs and minister have been strongly advocating the reshuffle at an earlier date.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi makes it plain and simple that Congress would snap its alliance with BPF if the Bodo political party joins NDA at the Centre. Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Thursday, Gogoi said that alliance with Congress in Dispur and any pact with NDA at the Centre was not possible.His reaction came a day after BPF MLA Pramila Rani Brahma said that BPF was all set to join NDA at the Centre while it would remain with Congress in the state.
In a bizarre incident, a person from Lakhimpur was found dead inside the room of a hotel in Guwahati on Thursday. Identified as Guneswar Chutia, the resident of Naoboisa landed at the Hotel Greenland in Ganeshguri on Wednesday. He was allowed to lodge at the Room No 101. A Naga miscreant was killed in police firing when he along with a few others set on fire a few houses at a tiny hamlet in Diphu bordering Nagaland on Thursday.The incident took place when a group of miscreants sneaked into the hamlet in Diphu and unleashed a reign of terror in the wee hours.A section of these miscreants further resorted to blank firing to disperse the villagers. Policemen who were on alert arrived in the village and firmly dealt with them where one of the miscreants died on the spot.Others in the group managed to escape the spot. Security forces seem to have been fanning in and around the Chennai Central Railway Station after two explosions rocked the Guwahati-B’lore Expression on Wednesday morning.Local police have held one person from the railway platform. At least 3 people died and twenty others have sustained injury when a powerful blast rocked the Guwahati-B’lore Express in Chennai on Thursday.The explosion took place at the Chennai Central Station at the No 9 platform immediately after the Guwahati-B’lore Express train arrived en route to Guwahati there at 7.10 in the morning.All injured have been rushed to the hospital.
