International Women’s Day observed at Rangaloo

International Women’s Day was observed at Gram Vikash Parishad’s Head Office, Rangaloo jointly by Jan Sikshan Sansthan, Nagaon, Gram Vikash Parishad and Social Welfare Department of Nagaon on 8th March 2011. To mark this auspicious occasion a day long programme was held. Officers from different departments of the district and well known persons were present in the open session presided over by Md. Siraj Uddin Ahmed General Secretary of Gram Vikas Parishad. Valuable speeches were delivered by the eminent guest speakers including Mrs Jarjina Begum (Retired Subject Teacher), Moni Deepa Saikia (District Social Welfare Officer), Rosie Kalita (Additional S.P. Nagaon), Dr. Roslin Zahan (Professor Nagaon Girls College), Based Ali (Asstt. Teacher Rangoloo High School), Abdul Munnaf (President, Gram Vikas Parishad), Rumi Begum (Senior Supervisor Kathiatali ICDS Project), emphasizing over the main objective of observing Women’s Day, women empowerment and awareness.


On this occasion tree plantation, devotional song, drawing competition and a one act play performed by JSS & GVP staff written and directed by Kajol Choudhury were one of the important parts of the day long programme including open session. Few eminent social workers felicitated on this occasion were Nagaon Zila Mahila Congress Committee president Mrs. Eliza Ahmed, District Social Welfare Officer Ms. Moni Deepa Saikia and senior advocate and former lecturer of Nagaon Law College Mrs. Deepa Saikia.


More than three hundred women participants were gathered in a slide presentation based on International Women’s Day celebration theme of the year 2011, ‘Equal access to Education, training and science and technology, pathway to decent work place for women’ Md. Mritunjoy 108 workers took part in the open session and spoke about the first aid- precautionary measures to be taken at emergency.

Achyut Ranjan Gogoi of Nazira Jatiya Vidyalay tops the HSLC examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam in February. SEBA has anounced the results of the HSLC Examiation at a press conference at the office premises on Wednesday. Altogether 39006 candidates secured frst division. Altogether  82793 candidates were placed in second dvision while 104886 have been placed in the third division. The percentage of successful candidates stands at 60 this year.  
In a major setback for UPLF, police have arrested the insurgent outfit’s comander-in chief in Karbi Anglong on Wednesday. Identified as Menam Phanglo, the dreaded boss of the United Peoples’ Liberation Front was arrested during an operation in the Khotkhoti area of the hills district in the wee hours. He was brought for Khotkhoti police station where interrogation is underway. Notably, the outfit has been unleashing a reign of terror in the entire district in the form of murder, kidapping and extortion.    
Surging rain waters threaten to submerge parts of the state on Wednesday. The Brahmaputra and its tributeries start overflowing following the incessent rains in the catchment areas during the last couple of days.    If these rains continue to lash the state the water levels of the mighty river would touch the danger level which would mean flood misery in the first wave.   
A hardcore rhino poacher was killed and four others managed to escape during an encounter with forest guards in Kaziranga on Tuesday. The encounter took place in the evening at Kanchanjuri area in Bagori sector of the national park. Forest guards recovered a rifle from the spot after the encounter. But operation continued for several hours in search of the poachers who managed to flee from the spot.
As many as 15 dissident MLAs and ministers have been camping in New Delhi to appear before the three member panel set up to deal with the issue. Health and family welfare minister Dr Himanta Biswa, who has been leading the dissidence against chief minister Tarun Gogoi left for the capital on Sunday evening after he was sought. Fifteen others including Sarat Borkotoky arrived in the capital on Tuesday evening. Sources said that consisting of Dr CP Joshi, Motilal Vhora and Dr Gulam Nabi Azad, the three member panel will talk to 5 MLAs and Minister on Wednesday. The panel is expected to submit the findings by mid-June. Gandhi will take her final call on the basis of the report. ...
 Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is back in Guwahati. Gogoi, who is facing challenge from the dissidents arrived back in Guwahati on Tuesday afternoon. Sources told Assam Times that the party high command has given him special authority to effect massive reshuffle in his cabinet. Gogoi who resigned before Sonia Gandhi last week is believed to have been authorized to drop the controversial ministers after June 1.   
Sarbananda Sonowal took over as sports and youth affairs minister in New Delhi on Tuesday a day after he was sworn in as minister of state of independent charge. Sonowal, the state BJP president who defeated Union minister and Lakhimpur Congress candidate Ranee Narah reached the ministry office in the morning.   After assuming charges, Sonowal met the senior officials of the ministry and sought their cooperation.   
Sonia Gandhi steps in to mend the deepening differences within the Congress Legislative party. In a bid to end the dissidence problem, the Congress president has set up a three member panel to look into the problem confronting the Tarun Gogoi goverment. Consisting of Dr CP Joshi, Motilal Vhora and Dr Gulam Nabi Azad, the three member panel is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on June 5. The panel is expected to submit the findings by mid-June. Gandhi will take her final call on the basis of the report.            The decision was taken hours after the APCC scrapped the proposed extended executive meeting slated for May 29.
Dissident Congress ministers and MLAs are all set to rush to New Delhi on Wednesday to intensify their demands. According to sources, senior Congress MLAs who have been dead opposed to Gogoi as chief minister will try to call on Sonia Gandhi to mount pressure on her to remove Gogoi.
