International Women’s Day was observed at Gram Vikash Parishad’s Head Office, Rangaloo jointly by Jan Sikshan Sansthan, Nagaon, Gram Vikash Parishad and Social Welfare Department of Nagaon on 8th March 2011. To mark this auspicious occasion a day long programme was held. Officers from different departments of the district and well known persons were present in the open session presided over by Md. Siraj Uddin Ahmed General Secretary of Gram Vikas Parishad. Valuable speeches were delivered by the eminent guest speakers including Mrs Jarjina Begum (Retired Subject Teacher), Moni Deepa Saikia (District Social Welfare Officer), Rosie Kalita (Additional S.P. Nagaon), Dr. Roslin Zahan (Professor Nagaon Girls College), Based Ali (Asstt. Teacher Rangoloo High School), Abdul Munnaf (President, Gram Vikas Parishad), Rumi Begum (Senior Supervisor Kathiatali ICDS Project), emphasizing over the main objective of observing Women’s Day, women empowerment and awareness.
On this occasion tree plantation, devotional song, drawing competition and a one act play performed by JSS & GVP staff written and directed by Kajol Choudhury were one of the important parts of the day long programme including open session. Few eminent social workers felicitated on this occasion were Nagaon Zila Mahila Congress Committee president Mrs. Eliza Ahmed, District Social Welfare Officer Ms. Moni Deepa Saikia and senior advocate and former lecturer of Nagaon Law College Mrs. Deepa Saikia.

Karbi Anglong police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a combing operation against UPLA inside a dense jungle on Wednesday.
These include 6 AK-47 rifles, 21 grenades, a pistol along with many other ammunitions-- --seized from Nawang area in the district bordering Meghalaya.

Agriculture minister Nilomoni Sen Deka met Sarat Borotoky Wednesday on fuelling the specualtion of Chief minister’s new measures to contain the dissident ministers and MLAs.
Deka, the trusted minister of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi arrived in Sarat Borkotoky’s official residence at 11 in the morning.
The duo held a close door meeting for nearly one hour in presence of Gautom Roy who is also known to be a close associate of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Health and education minister Dr Himanta Biswa has been camping in New Delhi to call on Congress president Sonia Gandhi to formally raise the demand for change in CLP leadership.

Forest guards in Kaziranga claimed to have killed a rhino poacher at an encounter on Wednesday. But four others managed to flee from the spot.
The heavy gun battle took place near Gobrai forest camp where five poachers were believed to have been trying to kill a rhino on Tuesday midnight.

SDRF team finally rescued Manashi Rabha 5 hours after she fell into 40 feet deep well in Golapara district on Tuesday.
The college girl in Bapuji Nagar area was rescued at 8 in the morning after SDRF team launched the operation. Then she was rushed to the Goaplara Civil Hospital for treatment.
She remained trapped from 2 in the wee hours in a well after she slipped into it forcing the authority to deploy SDRF team to ensure her safe rescue.
Three minor boys were believed to have been met watery grave after they slipped into a stone quarry in Golaghat district on Monday. The incident took place at Bijuli Quarry in Bokakhat where the trio went to bath.
