International Women’s Day was observed at Gram Vikash Parishad’s Head Office, Rangaloo jointly by Jan Sikshan Sansthan, Nagaon, Gram Vikash Parishad and Social Welfare Department of Nagaon on 8th March 2011. To mark this auspicious occasion a day long programme was held. Officers from different departments of the district and well known persons were present in the open session presided over by Md. Siraj Uddin Ahmed General Secretary of Gram Vikas Parishad. Valuable speeches were delivered by the eminent guest speakers including Mrs Jarjina Begum (Retired Subject Teacher), Moni Deepa Saikia (District Social Welfare Officer), Rosie Kalita (Additional S.P. Nagaon), Dr. Roslin Zahan (Professor Nagaon Girls College), Based Ali (Asstt. Teacher Rangoloo High School), Abdul Munnaf (President, Gram Vikas Parishad), Rumi Begum (Senior Supervisor Kathiatali ICDS Project), emphasizing over the main objective of observing Women’s Day, women empowerment and awareness.
On this occasion tree plantation, devotional song, drawing competition and a one act play performed by JSS & GVP staff written and directed by Kajol Choudhury were one of the important parts of the day long programme including open session. Few eminent social workers felicitated on this occasion were Nagaon Zila Mahila Congress Committee president Mrs. Eliza Ahmed, District Social Welfare Officer Ms. Moni Deepa Saikia and senior advocate and former lecturer of Nagaon Law College Mrs. Deepa Saikia.

There is marginal let up in the over all flood scenario. The water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have stated redecing during the last 24 hours. But over 50 villages in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Jorhat districts are still reeling under water in the second round of floods. Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat. The overall flood situation in Majuli remains grim where over 25,000 people living in 65 villages have been reeling under the flash flood following heavy rain. The administration has shifted the marooned families to higher places. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhubaneswar Kalita on Thursday said that Himanta Biswa Sarma’s resignation before the Governor is against the party’s constitution . Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Thursday, Kalita said that nobody from the party suggested him to move the governor. He called it a case of clear violation of the party’s constitution. In a huge breakthrough, security forces claimed to have captured five top militants during a combing operation in Karbi Anglong district on Thursday. These include general secretary of the Karbi Peoples Liberation Army who were arrested during a joint police and Army team from Krogaon in the morning. According to police, identified as KPLT General Secretary Ranam Mirjang, the four militants were apprehended by a team of police and Army's Jat Regiment. A huge quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi rolls up his sleeves to reshuffle his council of minister in day or two. Sources told Assam Times that Gogoi has finalised the date during his meeting with Governor JB Patnaik on Wednesday afternoon. Gogoi is likely to give ministerial berth to Sarat Borkataky, Dr Bhumidhar Barman, Bidya Sing Engleng, Sukur Ali Ahmed, Bhupen Kumar Borah, Abdul Muhib Mazumdar and Girindra Mallik and Chandan Sarkar.
