Protesters flogged in Baksa

 Several people sustained injury when policemen sprang upon them for taking out a procession in Baksa district violating curfew on Thursday in protest against the brutal killing of a student leader.

The incident took place in Musolpur where policemen flogged  a group of people apart from bursting tear gas shells to disperse a mob as they were taking out a procession defying curfew with the body of a student leader shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Musalpur area of Baksa district on Wednesday night. a section of the local residents forcibly tried to take out the procession resulting in the bursting of tear gas shells and lathicharge to quell the irate mob.

Identified as Manoj Das, the student leader and an activist of the Sanmilita Janogosthioa Oikya Manch, was shot at by two motorcycle borne gunmen near Musalpur police station as he was returning home.

He succumbed to his injuries on way to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital.

He was involved with the campaigning for former ULFA leader and Independent candidate Naba Kumar Sarania (Hira) supported by the Manch in the Lok Sabha polls this year. According to allegations, he had received death threats. But police did not act on the FIR.
