International Women’s Day observed at Rangaloo

International Women’s Day was observed at Gram Vikash Parishad’s Head Office, Rangaloo jointly by Jan Sikshan Sansthan, Nagaon, Gram Vikash Parishad and Social Welfare Department of Nagaon on 8th March 2011. To mark this auspicious occasion a day long programme was held. Officers from different departments of the district and well known persons were present in the open session presided over by Md. Siraj Uddin Ahmed General Secretary of Gram Vikas Parishad. Valuable speeches were delivered by the eminent guest speakers including Mrs Jarjina Begum (Retired Subject Teacher), Moni Deepa Saikia (District Social Welfare Officer), Rosie Kalita (Additional S.P. Nagaon), Dr. Roslin Zahan (Professor Nagaon Girls College), Based Ali (Asstt. Teacher Rangoloo High School), Abdul Munnaf (President, Gram Vikas Parishad), Rumi Begum (Senior Supervisor Kathiatali ICDS Project), emphasizing over the main objective of observing Women’s Day, women empowerment and awareness.


On this occasion tree plantation, devotional song, drawing competition and a one act play performed by JSS & GVP staff written and directed by Kajol Choudhury were one of the important parts of the day long programme including open session. Few eminent social workers felicitated on this occasion were Nagaon Zila Mahila Congress Committee president Mrs. Eliza Ahmed, District Social Welfare Officer Ms. Moni Deepa Saikia and senior advocate and former lecturer of Nagaon Law College Mrs. Deepa Saikia.


More than three hundred women participants were gathered in a slide presentation based on International Women’s Day celebration theme of the year 2011, ‘Equal access to Education, training and science and technology, pathway to decent work place for women’ Md. Mritunjoy 108 workers took part in the open session and spoke about the first aid- precautionary measures to be taken at emergency.

The Supreme Court has asked Delhi and Dispur to file the status report on updating the National Register of Citizens. Hearing a writ petition moved by Assam Public Works on Monday, a division bench comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice MY Eqbal the Centre and the State to submit the progress report of the NRC update process. An alleged move to impeach Pranab Gogoi as Speaker created no less flutter among the Congress legislators in the first day of the Assam assembly’s budget session on Monday. But the Assam government made it plain and simple that it has no idea of how two ruling party legislators have been seeking legal opinion to remove Gogoi.  In a bizarre incident that sends shickwaves across the state, a few miscreants killed a school boy for not getting ransome from his parents. The gruesome incident took place in Mongoldoi where Class VI student Nipon Nath was kidnapped a couple of days . The abductors sent message to his parents demanding Rs 10 lakh. But they killed Nipon and dumped the body in Sipajhar to be recovered on Monday morning. Police investgation is going on. But nobody has so far been arrested in this connection.

The Assam assembly begins its budget session on Monday with a stormy note with the Opposition taking on the government alleging failure on all fronts. As the House met at 9 in the morning with question hours, the Opposition parties started launching scathing attack on the government citing the issues one by one. The Assam government on Saturday made it plain and simple that under no circumstances it will acquire agricultural land for industrial purpose. But in the same breath, it clarified plans to reclassify the unused land, where farming never took place. The government cleared its position after it talked to the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leadership in Dispur. Talking to Assam Times, the government officials denied any intention to give agricultural land to industrialists. They said that the intention was only to correct this and wants to reclassify those lands as "non-agricultural" so that "some developmental works" can be carried out in future.
