International Women’s Day was observed at Gram Vikash Parishad’s Head Office, Rangaloo jointly by Jan Sikshan Sansthan, Nagaon, Gram Vikash Parishad and Social Welfare Department of Nagaon on 8th March 2011. To mark this auspicious occasion a day long programme was held. Officers from different departments of the district and well known persons were present in the open session presided over by Md. Siraj Uddin Ahmed General Secretary of Gram Vikas Parishad. Valuable speeches were delivered by the eminent guest speakers including Mrs Jarjina Begum (Retired Subject Teacher), Moni Deepa Saikia (District Social Welfare Officer), Rosie Kalita (Additional S.P. Nagaon), Dr. Roslin Zahan (Professor Nagaon Girls College), Based Ali (Asstt. Teacher Rangoloo High School), Abdul Munnaf (President, Gram Vikas Parishad), Rumi Begum (Senior Supervisor Kathiatali ICDS Project), emphasizing over the main objective of observing Women’s Day, women empowerment and awareness.
On this occasion tree plantation, devotional song, drawing competition and a one act play performed by JSS & GVP staff written and directed by Kajol Choudhury were one of the important parts of the day long programme including open session. The Supreme Court has asked Delhi and Dispur to file the status report on updating the National Register of Citizens. Hearing a writ petition moved by Assam Public Works on Monday, a division bench comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice MY Eqbal the Centre and the State to submit the progress report of the NRC update process. The court will further hear the petition after examining the status report on August 20.
Koliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi has demanded an All India Institute of Medical Science in Golaghat. In his speech in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Gogoi said that the premier medical institute would be a major boost for the health sector in upper Assam along with the neighbouring north eastern states. In a bizarre incident that sends shickwaves across the state, a few miscreants killed a school boy for not getting ransome from his parents. The gruesome incident took place in Mongoldoi where Class VI student Nipon Nath was kidnapped a couple of days . The abductors sent message to his parents demanding Rs 10 lakh. The Assam government on Saturday made it plain and simple that under no circumstances it will acquire agricultural land for industrial purpose. But in the same breath, it clarified plans to reclassify the unused land, where farming never took place. The government cleared its position after it talked to the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leadership in Dispur. Talking to Assam Times, the government officials denied any intention to give agricultural land to industrialists. They said that the intention was only to correct this and wants to reclassify those lands as "non-agricultural" so that "some developmental works" can be carried out in future.
