Village girls in Rani taking up Football

Love for the game of football in the entire North East India is not new, people in Assam also love football and had produced good players in the past. However female participation in the game and achieving accolade is not that have been seen too often. The reason expert says is lack of good coaching facilities, sponsors problem from both private and the government and thus not too many tournaments for the girls for exposure.

Cycling and walking through long dusty roads from different villages in greater Rani area, school girls gather in the Rani High school field with dreams in their eyes, a dream to play good football, a game that is not alien to them. However no tournaments or encouragements for theses girls to play in the village. But a football coaching camp is changing the attitude of the girls and the perception of the villagers too.

Hem Das, an experience coach of Guwahati young star club, has started a Football coaching centre in Rani high school in coordination with local villagers and the Rani High school headmaster. The objective of the center was to develop a boy’s football team but that was not encouraging even after two years had passed, In contrast the coach had decided to give a call for the girls in the end of the last year and to a great surprise some 40 odd girls enrolled in the coaching camp within no time. What can be more encouraging than this for any sports? “I want to bring good name to our village and our locality and hoping to join the Assam team and thus I have joined the football coaching camp and I used to play in school also” said Nitumoni Kalita.

Now Since that a good number of girls had joined the camp, Hem Das has made up his mind to unearth their potential and give them a good exposure by ensuring them to play a tournament in the Guwahati very soon. The enthusiasm showed by the girls has encouraged the coach to train them hard for the near future. All these girls come from villages like Moirapur, jayantipur, maskuchi, natun rani, Rani, Natun batabari, koroibari, pitbari, bahupara, goimari, rangapara, lalmati.

Asked if any one have hard about Baiching Bhutia, the answer is straight “No” and if yes, “What Game does he play?”. But that’s not a matter of concern seeing their interest in the game. I don’t have a TV sets at home, and so cant watch any football game, but I want to play for our state in the near future, said Nizara a practicing goalkeeper and a student of Tenth Standard in the Rani High school.

The reason that the girls are difficult to manage for continuing practice is because of their house hold works and lack of proper backup from their parents and many other reasons, admits Hem Das, and thus he has decided to call Guardian meeting. He wants to make agreements with the parents so that the girls are allowed to play in competitions and thus making sure that the energy and money wasted doesn’t go in vain.

With no prior exposure regarding training for football game the girls try to show a great discipline in practicing the game, after all they have grown seen football in their villages and the coaching center is giving them hope to be a football player and play in the tournaments in the city.

It is the interest and love for football that Hem Das, on his own has started the free coaching center, bearing own expenses. However he is hoping to get sponsors for the girls for developing their interests. He says it is easy to get sponsors in the city but not in the village and the contrast is that village girl shows interest in playing football not girls from a city. A city girl can’t effort to do much hard work like their counterparts in the village. After all football is a physical game.

The surrounding trees and the By-cycles are the only spectators to watch and encourage these girls while in their long hour practice session in the school fields, besides the coach a local young footballer call Niranjan, are the only people to take care of these shy girls.

People all over the world along with the state of Assam, today celebrated the world environment day, with much attention from the media and real and fake environment lovers. What for than those who give a damn to this celebration and ridicule it the very next day, including forest officials, so called the boss of the jungles. So, promises are only meant to be broken and it is nothing strange. Talking about forest protection and environment concern only looks good in grand meetings and not so much on practical ground. The easiest thing in this world to do is to criticise and that is what I am doing, but I know this should not cross the limit. However sometimes extreme things...

Most of the people have not even seen Guwahati, don’t know about the chief minister, but luckily some have heard...
Whatever had been the distribution of the portfolio in the hatric Congress government, the fact that Dr. Himanta Bishwa Sharma, was given the education including health portfolio, was enough for the general people to be happy, first to see some more progress in the health department and expecting the same in the Education department which is considered being one of the worst department in the state. After the new portfolio as education minister, perhaps the education department officials had made their minds to face the music of the minister but were little casual too. Thus the minister’s sudden visit to the DPI office at Kahilipara had come as a big surprise to the ever casual and...
Assam’s hatric Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, at a press conference on Tuesday said that Akhil Gogoi's protest on 22nd June, against eviction drive resembles to maoist tactics and this was evident from the fact that the protestors were carrying sticks and stone on their hands. Though the Chief Minister didn’t link directly Akhil Gogoi to the maoist, he did say that there are members in the Krisak Mukti Sangram Samity organization having maoist links. He had referred about two persons that were arrested last year. It is time to make sure that while on protest carrying sticks in hands will resemble a maoist protest. Thus anywhere in the world if protestors clash with the police...
The Tarun Gogoi led government, have managed to come to power for the third time, and perhaps there was a lot of expectations from the people. The chief minister had himself said that the absence of opposition I the assembly means more responsibility and sincerity for the congress government, and thus no scope for anarchy. No doubt The people in general take the words of Tarun Gogoi at face value for his good image, but for a section of people, never in their wildest dreams they might have imagined what waited ahead of the new Government would be a hell raiser that would shake them mentally, and boil their bloods to the extreme. “EVICTION” a word that brings nightmare for...

After the congress Tsunami in the 20011 election that left the political opposition horror-struck, now the million dollar question is about the functioning of the new government. Will the congress govern wisely? No Socrates and thus no philosopher kings, yet some feel that congress will do justice and corruption level will come down to some extent as because the congress has already looted for 10 years, on the other hand some feels, had the AGP came to power, corruption would have started right from the word “GO”. Million people with million minds will have various opinions, but in general people want a corruption free government and less burden of tax. However a taxi driver...
The Congress under the leadership of Tarun Gogoi, may have created history in the 2011 election but alongside more negative history have been written too. The marginalization of the AGP and the rise of AIUDF, which is perhaps of more serious concern in nature for the state of Assam. The fact that Tarun Gogoi had once said “Who is Baddaruddin” might have yielded good results for the congress but nevertheless it had demoralized the AIUDF, instead the AIUDF had hit congress harder than any one had expected. No doubt that the AIUDF is a sister party of the Congress and the sentiments of the scrapping of the IMDT had paved its way for revolting against the congress. Thus Tarun...
The comeback of congress to regain power for the third time in Assam under the leadership of Tarun Gogoi was not at all unexpected, but the margin of the result was unexpected by and large. The Big question is how the congress managed to get seats even beyond their imagination. The last time before the counting APCC president, Bhubeneshwar Kalita's prediction was 70 seats and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi,s prediction was 65 to 70 seats. But the people of the state had more surprise for the congress that no one had imagined; Exit polls had feared to cross the mark of 70 presuming it would be bias to go beyond the limited mark. Congress party workers at Rajiv Bhawan were stunt to see...
