Army organises lecture on career in armed forces in Barpata
Indian Army in its endeavour to motivate youths to join Indian Army, organised a Lecture cum Talk on “Career in the Armed Forces” at “Dakshin Bijni Adarsh Vidyapeeth Higher Secondary School, Saudarvitha”. The awareness programme was attended by 450 students of different schools of the area. The awareness programme was held under the aegis of Army Camp, Saudarvitha of 12 Kumaon Regiment under Red Horn Division.
The lecture and Talk introduced the students to various career opportunities in the Armed Forces. The students were explained with the help of slide shows and overhead projector on career options for both males and females such as National Defence Academy (NDA), Combined Defence Services (CDS), Officers’ training Academy (OTA). The details on Qualification required for each entry and UPSC Exam being conducted next year were also told to the students. A video documentary on the lives of cadets during the training at IMA (Indian Military Academy), Dehradun was also shown to the students.
The students were also encouraged to focus upon their aim and strive hard for better results. An appeal was also made to all parents to guide their children towards the correct path and encourage the children to join the Armed Forces. The effort of the Army was highly appreciated by the students and school authorities. This endeavour by Army was quite fruitful as it motivated and inspired many students to join the Armed forces and made them aware of the opportunities available in Indian Army.

The Mobile Health Unit under NRHM was opened here at Barpeta today to provide the health service to the deprived people of the district. DC Barpeta, Phanidhar Kalita, flagged off the service at the premises of Joint Director of Health Services. Two dacoits were killed in an encounter at Jalakura bridge at Keotkuchi, about 4 km from Barpeta yesterday night. According report, a group police personnel headed by the ASP, DSP and TSI of Barpeta got information about the dacoits and they are awaiting for them at that place. As soon as they arrived the police try to catch them, but the encounter took place between the police and the dacoits. As a result two dacoits were killed and other fled away. A pistol, a deggar and a mobile handset were recovered from them. The dead dacoits were not identified till now.
The DSP of Barpeta Sushanta Biswa Sarma with the police personnel of Barpeta and Kalgachiya i/c recovered fake notes worth Rs.11500 of 500 denominations from a one Alam Ali of Madrasapara of Kokila outpost in Barpeta district yesterday. The money was recovered at Barvitha near Kalgachiya. According to report, the business of fake currency was on going during last few days in the entire district.
