Army organises lecture on career in armed forces in Barpata


Indian Army in its endeavour to motivate youths to join Indian Army, organised a Lecture cum Talk on “Career in the Armed Forces” at “Dakshin Bijni Adarsh Vidyapeeth Higher Secondary School, Saudarvitha”. The awareness programme was attended by 450 students of different schools of the area. The awareness programme was held under the aegis of Army Camp, Saudarvitha of 12 Kumaon Regiment under Red Horn Division.


The lecture and Talk introduced the students to various career opportunities in the Armed Forces. The students were explained with the help of slide shows and overhead projector on career options for both males and females such as National Defence Academy (NDA), Combined Defence Services (CDS), Officers’ training Academy (OTA). The details on Qualification required for each entry and UPSC Exam being conducted next year were also told to the students. A video documentary on the lives of cadets during the training at IMA (Indian Military Academy), Dehradun was also shown to the students.


The students were also encouraged to focus upon their aim and strive hard for better results. An appeal was also made to all parents to guide their children towards the correct path and encourage the children to join the Armed Forces. The effort of the Army was highly appreciated by the students and school authorities. This endeavour by Army was quite fruitful as it motivated and inspired many students to join the Armed forces and made them aware of the opportunities available in Indian Army.

Two ULFA 709 battalion cadres were killed in an encounter at Nasatra village under Sarthebari PS in Barpeta district yesterday at about 1 pm. One of the dead person was identified as Pingal Deka, son of Gangadhar Deka of Nasatra village and the other dead cadre was not identified till filing this report. The additional sessions Judge FTC (First Track Court), Barpeta sentenced one Pranab Nath of Howly village in Barpeta district under U/S 448/380/302 IPC imprisonment for life in connection with a murder case. According to report, on June 12, 2006, the accused entered into the house of one Ananta Roy of Bamundi village under Sarthebari, Barpeta dist and killed the son of the family with sharp weapon and had taken Rs.2000/ and some ornaments from their house. Ananta Das lodged an FIR before I/C Howly on June 13, 2006.
One person died and about 20 others injured in a bus accident at Kaljhar, near Howly in Barpeta district today at around 4 pm. A Tinsukia-bounded bus (No- AS-01-V1367) set out from Barpeta Road met with the accident at Kaljhar on No.31 National Highway near Howly. The deceased was not identified till filing this report. The injured passengers were sent to Howly PHC and Barpeta civil hospital.
The chairperson, Assam State commission for women, Mridula Sahariya visited Bajali sub-division recently to attend in a discussion meet about various legal matters, women empowerment and to bring awareness regarding pollution free environment. The mighty river Beki eroded most of the part of Jania area in Barpeta district. At present it has become a threat to the Jania xatra. About 35 houses have been collapsed. The new committee of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Barpeta was formed recently at "BARK DIOGNOSTIC CENTRE" in a general meeting. Twenty one injured in a road accident at Sonkuchi Colony of Barpeta town today at about 7.40 am. According to report, a Dhuburi-bound highspeeded Bolero pickup FB (No-AS-15 C 0699) vehicle lost it's control and 21 labours of that vehicle were injured.
