Durga Puja at Pune 2010


This year Pune witnessed Xarodiya Puja or the Akalbodhan (untimely awakening of Durga) with lots of love and ecstasy and bouquet, also known as Durga Puja, is celebrated from the sixth to tenth day of the waxing moon in the month of Ashwin, Occasionally however, due to shifts in the lunar cycle relative to the solar months, it may also be held in the following month, Kartika. According to the Gregorian calendar, these dates correspond to the months of September and October. It is an annual festival amongst Hindus, widely celebrated in West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and Tripura.


Durga Puja can be witnessed in few places of Maharashtra, Delhi, Bangalore and other parts of thr country, celebrated by the Bengali and Assamese groups.


In Pune, Durga Puja was celebrated at various places with traditional worship and glee. Places like B.T Kawade Road, Koregaon Park, Shivaji Nagar,Salunke Vihar, AFMC, Pimpri , Khadki and Viman Nagar witnessed the puja. Thousands of devotees were seen visiting the Puja Pandals.


Twilight witnesses various cultural program organized by the various Puja committees with the mixture and essence of traditional ways of Puja along with musical night and other games.
