Dr Fatik Gogoi felicitated and conferred ‘Visistha Samaj Sevak;

Dr Fatik Gogoi, a renowned physician and a dedicated social worker was felicitated at a grand public meeting held in the Amateur Theater Hall presided over by Sriram Goswami, a prominent citizen of the town. He was also awarded the title Visistha Samaj Sevak’. The was a result of a Golaghat Municipal Board's decision to falicitate and confer a ‘Visistha Samaj Sevak’ on one philanthropic citizen of Golaghat town for his or her social services and cultural contribution every year.

Dr Fatik Gogoi, the son of Taranath Gogoi and Mrs Laxmi Gogoi was originally belonged to Jhanji and due to his long service period he permanently settled at Golaghat. A science graduate (B.Sc) from Cotton College, Guwahati. Dr Gogoi Passed MBBS from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh in 1956 and acquired D.P.H. deploma from Calcutta. He started his career at Nakachari Primary Health Center (PHC) and then joined Gourisagar and Sarupathar PHC respectively. Dr Gogoi came to Golaghat in 1960 . He spent most of the time of his life as a Government Doctor at Galahat. Apart from his medical efficiency, Dr Gogoi showed his administrative skill when he joined at Sibsagar as Chief District Medical Health officer. There was a time when a few doctors were there at Golaghat to render medical service to a large population of the then Golaghat Sub-Division.The prominent among them were Dr Fatik Gogoi, late Dr Shashi Mahanta, late Dr Lakhi Baruah and Dr Chandradhar Choudhri etc who gave their services to the people. That was the time of no specialization. In Government hospital Dr Gogoi had to treat all types of patients. He had to play the role of gynecologist, general and orthopedic surgeon and general physician at the same time and it was the grace of god that he hardly failed at any stage and that is why even today when the specialists in different branches of medical science are available people prefer to go first to Dr Gogol. Besides the medical services the people of Golaghat find Dr Gogol always ready to extend his co-operation at any stage of social life. He was associated with the Nagrik Manch, Doctors’ Club, Consumer Protection Forum, Pensioners’ Association, Senior Citizen Forum etc. With the active efforts of Dr Gogol many educational institutions are being run smoothly which mainly includes the B.Ed College and the Law College at a small town like Golaghat. Considering these qualities Dr Gogol was publicly felicitated by the Golaghat Municipal Board as well as by a number of local social and cultural organizations.

Dr Gogol become emotional at the event and said in his brief speech that he had never thought that the people of Galahad loved him to that extent of their heart and expresses his gratitude to the people of Golaghat for giving him that much honour that he never hopped of.
