Kalaigaon College to celebrate silver jubilee from Nov. 9

Kalaigaon College has been the only higher educational institution in and around Kalaigaon since its establishment in in 1984.Thanks to a few nobleman like nonagenarian freedom fighter and founder president Pani Ram Das; late Khargadhar Barua etc for whose dedication and sacrifices the college has now been showing excellence in academic fields. People of Kalaigaon are all set to celebrate the silver jubilee year of the college from November 9 2009 with various programmes.According to Arabinda Das, principal, Kalaigaon college,hoisting of college flag on the morning of November 9 would mark the beginning of the celebration to be continued for a year.He also said that a grand get together ceremony would also be arranged on the day to be attended by all the old students, teachers and patrons of the college.


A strong reception committee has been formed on the occasion with PHE Minister Rihan Daimari as the chief patron;Maheswar Baro,MLA as the president;Dandi Ram Rabha,MCLA as the working president; Kami Ram Saharia,Niranjan Singh and Dandi Kumar Baro as vice presidents and Arabinda Das,principal,Kalaigaon College as secretary. A few vital sub-committees had also been formed with the following persons as president and secretaries respectively. Food-Kamala Baro and Haramohan Deka; Decoration –Jhankhar Narzari and Dulen Nath;Book fare & exhibition- Jayanta Kumar Das and Debanjan Sinha; Pandal-Dulal Daimari and Kamala Rabha;Sound & Light-Ram Singh Baro and Rabindra Rabha;Souvenir-Prasanna baro and Sashi Saharia;Publicity-Imran Hussain and Tankeswar Barua;Volunteer-Anil Deka and Hiranya Baro.


The meeting of the reception committee held on October 16,which was presided over by Maheswar Baro,MLA decided to honour all the founders of the college during the celebration ceremony.

In a very tragic and shocking incident six endangered species of Himalayan vultures died and two critically injured in Udmari village near Kalaigaon in Darrang district on March 16 due to poisoning.The incident has caused sensation in the district and everybody has condemned the poisoning of the innocent vultures. Encounter took place  between a group of NDFB(S) militant and a police party comprising SP and  Addl.S.P. Udalguri, OC, Mazbat PS, IPS (Proby) and other police personnel in Hatipota village under Mazbat PS last night on March 15. In a joint operation by police and 168 Field Regiment of Army, one dreaded NDFB (S) cadre B. Shumla has been killed in Asrabari under Mazbat Police Station this morning on March 15.
