An evening of goodwill

”Durgat Kalyan Nyas”,a Kalaigaon based NGO distributed study materials and financial assistance to five very poor students, who had shown excellence in the recent HSLC and HSSLC examinations 2009.A formal ceremony was arranged on the occasion at the premise of the office of the Circle Officer, Kalaigaon on July 25 at 3pm which was presided over by DN Hazarika,Circle Officer, Kalaigaon and Harisinga Revenue Circle.Social worker and secretary of the “Nyas “,Lohit Chandra Nath highlighted the activities of the “Nyas” since 2007. He said that the “Nyas” was formed on May 7 2007 to provide assistance to poor and needy people particularly the students. According to him members of the organization headed by DN Hazarika distributed study materials to nearly 800 student victims of the recent ethnic violence, that had taken serious turn in Darrang and Udalguri district. Noted “Ban Geet” scholar and singer Arabinda Pathak of Guwahati in his speech as the guest of honour thanked the organizers for such a great mission of charity.


The five recipients of the assistance were -Sabita Kalita of Barangabari village; Rameswar Deka of Naharbari village;Himjyoti Tamuli of Udmari village;Rehana Begum of Dakhin Bokrajhar village and Pompi Debnath of Tangla.It needs mention that all the five students had passed their respective board examinations /09 in first division with letter marks in various subjects.The parents of all the students were too poor to support their wards continuing their studies. Tears of gratitude seemed roll down from the eyes of the students as they had spoken a few words in turn. 11 injured in Udalguri violence

At least 11 people sustained injury when the Adivasi-sponsored bandh turned violent in Udalguri on Thursday. Pension Adalot at Udalguri

Wild tusker electrocuted in Udalguri

  In another tragic incident an 25 years old wild tusker has been eletrocuted at Ganeshghat in Majuli tea garden in Udalguri district in November 2 mor ning. According to information the elephant died on spot after it had come in to contact of loosely erected illegal electric fencing meant to keep away wild elephants.Such electric fences have been causing threat to wild elephants. So far six wild elephants lost lives in Udalguri district in 2014.

More wild elephant dies in Udalguri

The carcass of a twelve years old wild makhna elephant has been found at Jiabharla river near Coramore in Udalguri district on October 31. According to information the elephant had died a week before.Due to difficult terrain forest personnel could arrive only on October 31.So far 5 wild elephants are dead in Udalguri district in 2014 against deaths of 20 people.

Child scientists on ASTEC science trip
