Elephant menace: 1 trempled to death

The men-elephant conflict has reached a tragic point in Udalguri district where death in elephant attack has become a regular feature these days. Wild elephants continue to unleash reigns of terror in the district. Yet another minor boy lost his life in elephant attack in the district sending shockwaves across the state on Tuesday.

The tragic incident took place in the wee hours at Gitibari in Paneri area where a huge herd of elephants barged into the house of Saraswati Das and trampled to death her 7 year old boy Bidan. Saraswati and her elder son Nidan also sustained injury in the attack.

The herd of elephants numbering 140 have been roaming in Paneri and Bhootiachang tea garden areas for last couple of days unleashing panic in the entire area.

Notably, in Udalguri district alone, 21 people lost their lives at the hands of wild elephants. At least 7 wild elephants died in 2014.
