Child scientist conducts programme on climate change at Kalaigaon
An awareness program on climate change and global warming was organized at Kalaigaon, on the evening of July 14,2009, at JNV school. The students from Class-6 to Class-12 and teachers were present in the program. Madhab Sarma, Principal, JNV, Kalaigaon inaugurated the programme with a speech on climate change and global warming. This was followed by the showcasing of two documentaries- “Climate’s First Orphans” by Nila Madhab and “The Weeping Apple Tree” by Vijay S. Jodha from the DVD- “Climate Change- An Untold Story” of the UKEFF. Child scientist Angshuman Hazarika, who had won a fellowship of British council on Indian climate change, presented a topic on climate change with the help of multimedia, followed by an interaction session with the students where a wide range of topics from climate change to energy efficiency were discussed. The programme was also addressed by several teachers and students of the school on the matter of changing climate and global warming. They also expressed their willingness to be a part of the global campaign to check climate change and global warming. The students also expressed their willingness to take personal interest in the matter to fight the problem and also spread the message to their respective villages. The programme was attended by more than three hundred students beside teachers and guardians.
