On the occasion of the ‘International Women’s Day”, Agragami Mahasangha of Kalaigaon Mahila Samata Society organized a day long programme at Choudhuripara village near Kalaigaon on March 8. The lighting of holy light by veteran social worker Subarna Choudhuri marked the beginning of the day followed by hoisting of Mahila Samata flag by Bimala Deka,president of the Mahasangha.Golapi Baruah,CLRP,in her welcome speechrequested all the women living in the villages to unitedly stand against all kinds of injustice meted out to poor and helpless women living in the society. She also acknowledged the contribution of Clara Gate Clin, who had been fighting to unite all the exploited women of the world for justice and equality.A colourful procession was taken out on the occasion through various villages, which was formally inaugurated by DN Hazarika, Circle Officer, Kalaigaon. Speaking on the occasion Hazarika thanked the organizers for arranging the programme, which according to him would inspire the women of the society to stand for justice and equlity.More than hundred women and girls took part in the procession. Demonstration of Yoga Asanas were also arranged on the occasion. Noted Yoga expert Danda Pratap Sarmah along with his yoga team performed a few yoga asana specially meant for the women and girls.The open session was presided over by Sita Devi. Dipali Das,district coordinator of Mahila Samata Society,Darrang also attended the session. Chandrama Deka, CLRP, in her speech said that,there had been 7 Mahasanghas (panchayat level);70 Sanghas (village level) of Mahila samata Society, with 3945 members covering 53 villageshad been working in Kalaigaon areas. International Women’s Day was also observed at Kalaigaon Town LP School with various programmes.
