Nabajit Das, Lecturer in Zoology, B.H.college, Howly participated in the 10th students' conference on conservation sciences held in Cambridge University on March 24 to 26 and presented a paper on "Bengal Slowlories", the only nocturnal primate species of North-East India. He also successfully completed a one month internship programme at Oxford Brookes University,Oxford from March 27/09 to April 25/09.Mr. Nabajit Das is an active member of Primate Research Centre NE India and at present doing PHD on Bengal Slowlories under the guidance of Prof. P.C. Bhattacharjee, Dept of zoology, Guwahati University.He is the eldest son of Ghanasyam Das and Bhagya Das of Palangdihati, Barpeta .

AGP meet at Barpeta

AGP organised a Gana Satyagrah on January 10 at Barpeta town. The event was attended by thousands of people which was held at the filed near law college Barpeta. All the central AGP members took out a procession from the district municipality playground shouting with the slogans against the government. Indian Army in its endeavour to motivate youths to join Indian Army, organised a Lecture cum Talk on “Career in the Armed Forces” at “Dakshin Bijni Adarsh Vidyapeeth Higher Secondary School, Saudarvitha”. A Quiz competition was organized for the students of Shankar Dev Shishu Niketan, Saudarvitha by Army Camp, Saudarvitha of 12 Kumaon Regiment under Red Horn Division. The competition was organized as part of “Sadbhavana” by the Army for the students and was based on the rich art, culture and heritage of Assam. Violation-marred bandh at Barpeta district

The situation in and around Bahari in Barpeta continues to remain tense for the consecutive four days even as a BJP called twelve hour Barpeta district bandh on Wednesday. Though the bandh was by and large peaceful, situation in Chenga in the district went almost out of control before noon and police had to fire several rounds of bullets and teargas shells in the air to disperse the bandh supporters. Sankardeva birth anniversary celebrations at Barpeta

The 562nd birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankadrdeva was observed at Barpeta Sattra and at Barpeta Bar Bazar like the rest of the state.
