Achievement

Nabajit Das, Lecturer in Zoology, B.H.college, Howly participated in the 10th students' conference on conservation sciences held in Cambridge University on March 24 to 26 and presented a paper on "Bengal Slowlories", the only nocturnal primate species of North-East India. He also successfully completed a one month internship programme at Oxford Brookes University,Oxford from March 27/09 to April 25/09.Mr. Nabajit Das is an active member of Primate Research Centre NE India and at present doing PHD on Bengal Slowlories under the guidance of Prof. P.C. Bhattacharjee, Dept of zoology, Guwahati University.He is the eldest son of Ghanasyam Das and Bhagya Das of Palangdihati, Barpeta .

A dead body of a driver of Nalbari reserve police was found at Bardhantuli no. 5 Batasila gaon Panchayat under Nalbari police station in Barpeta district this morining. The dead body was identified as Najrul ali of Bardhantuli village in Nalbari district. According to report, Najrul was killed brutally while he was returning from his work yesterday night and after killing him the miscreants kept his dead body in a pond at Bardhantuli village near his home. Barpeta district CPI(ML) today observed jail-bhoro programme protesting against the skyrocketing price hike and the continuous corruption in implementing the various NREGA schemes of the entire district. The district unit took out a procession with slogan against the governments towards the deputy commissioner's office and in front of Deputy commissioner's office they staged demonstration. The urged the government for controlling the skyrocketing price hike which has made the lives of the general people measurable. On the other hand the corruption in NREGA schemes also harassed the people depriving the proper persons.
Manas National Park, one of the largest park in the country. But the communication network with the park is very deplorable. Manas National Park has a glorious history with the legend of the Bodo-Kacharies, Naudari-Chikhla, but at present this National Park could not be able to keep its past glory properly. The Manas River which benevolently has enriched the beauty of the park seems to have secluded. Yet the people of Lower Assam take Pride for this Park. The sudden price hike of the essential commodities has made the life of the general people miserable. The state government has completely failed to control the price hike. Barpeta district AGP has taken out a protest march on September 14 and later on staged demonstration at the DC office premises. The organisation also submitted a memorandum to the DC Barpeta to take appropriate measures on the sudden price hike of the essential commodities.
Barpeta district Gramin Dak Sevak union today staged two-hours-long demonstration at Barpeta post office premises demanding to submit the report of 6th pay commission. Mentionable that about 3 lakh Gramin Dak Sevak have been serving in a nomial rate year after year. The death anniversary of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdeva was observed at Barpeta Satra (Assamese monastery) by conducting a traditional Kirtan Mahotsava. Kirtans are devotional songs sang in the local language.
