More than 75 houses were left ravaged as a devastating fire broke out at the Paltanbazar based police reserve in Guwahati on Monday morning.
According to information, the incident took place at around 9 in the morning following an electric short circuit. There is no report of any injury in the fire but it reduced to ashes properties lakhs of rupees. It is alleged that the electrical appliances have been lying without any repair for the last several years.
In yet another incident in the wee hours, Manish Jain, a medicine dealer grievously beaten up by the local residents in Shantipur in Guwahati charging him with deliberately setting on fire his goodwon as the goodwon contained some spurious medicines.

Three suspected NDFB cadres were gunned down during an encounter with security forces in Goalpara district on Friday. According to police, the encounter took place during an operation in Salpara around in the wee hours. In the retaliatory firing, three cadres were killed, while the rest two managed to escape. A woman died of electrocution when she was trying to charge her mobile phone in Kamrup (Rural) district on Friday. The incident took place in the morning in Pitambar Hat Bajali village, when the woman jolted as she put the mobile charger to the switch and fell unconscious in her house of the district. Identifiedas Lalita Kumar, she was rushed to the Rangiya Civil Hospital hospital where she was declared brought dead.
