Children park at Sukapha

Well known NGO Probah has setup a full fledged Children Park at Sukapha, near the burial ground of Ahom kings of Charaideo. The park will provide all round amusement facilities to the Children and its construction expenditure is nearly one crore Rupees. The Park was opened on last 30th January, 2009, where ex-minister of Assam Hemoprova Saikia, Zilla President Hemo Gogoi & President of Probah Debobrata Saikia were also present along with their guests.

Ribulaya fetches pride

Nazira is proud of Ribulaya Gogoi these days. Former AASU leader dies

A pall of gloom descends in Nazira following the sudden death of Tipun Gogoi. Gogoi, the young businessman died on Wednesday night. He was 31 and left behind him mother and elder brother. Various local organizations and individuals condoled his death and conveyed their deep sympathies to the bereaved family members.   

Sivasagar DC felicitated

The Freelance Journalist Association of Nazira felicitated Virendra Mittal on Wednesday two days after he took over as the Sivasagar deputy commissioner.  The association members along with the Pragati officials honoured him at a brief function at his office chamber in the morning. Mittal, who worked as Nazira SDOCivil) a couple of years back sought help and cooperation from all section of the people.  

AASU stages demo in Nazira

Along with other parts of the state, AASU activists in Nazira staged demonstration on Tuesday in the town in protest against Centre’s support to the Indo-Bangla land deal.AASU activists thronged the Natya Mandir premises in the morning and staged satyagraha till the afternoon opposing the land deal. Talking to Assam Times, they alleged that the Modi government at the Centre has been undermining the sentiments of the state and its people.They further called BJP a bunch of betrayers and that they won’t allow it to happen. 

Pall of gloom in Nazira

A pall of gloom descended in Nazira when Jadavananda Baruah passed away on Wednesday. He was 90. The social worker and former Nazira Town Committee chairman breathed his last at his own residence in Guwahati in the morning. Baruah is survived by his son and daughter.Various organisations and individuals condoled in his demise and conveyed their deep sympathies to the bereaved family members.  

Protest continues against Swamy

Thousands of Muslim people burnt the effigy of Dr Subramaniam Swamy in Nazira on Tuesday three days after the BJP veteran asked the immigrants to covert to Hinduism to get Indian citizenship.Organized by the Muslim Youva Parishad, the protesters thronged the Nazira town, burnt Dr Swamy’s effigy after shouting slogans condemning his controversial statements on historic Assam Accord.Later in a press conference, they said that Assam is a land of peace and harmony and that its people should condemn these communal statements.    

Threat to Gorokhiya temple

A historical monument that speaks volumes of the Ahoms era is on the verge of extinction. Its none other than the Gorokhya Dol in Nazira. The river Dikhow has been posing serious threat to it if the erosion is not checked at an earlier date.   But strange are the ways of the government. The 17th century monument seems to have been a liability of the government. Leopard carcass found in Nazira

The recovery of a leopard carcass sends no less shock among the wild life activist lovers in Sivasagar on Wednesday.The carcass of the 5 feet long full grown leopard was spotted by the local villagers on the river Dikhow at Sunpura in the morning.Acting on information, forest department officials arrived in the river bank and recovered the carcass. The reason would be ascertained only after the post mortem. 

Boiling border in Gelekey: attack in tea gardens

After Golaghat, the Assam-Nagaland border in Sivasagar district is on the boil these days. The epicentre is Gelekey where Naga miscreants resumed reign of terror. Suspected Naga miscreants set on fire five houses in the tea gardens on Wednesday three days after a villager was shot dead at the paddy field in Golaghat.The incident took place at Singibeel area in the wee hours where the miscreants who sneaked into the area from across the inter state border and burnt down seven houses full of green tea leaves.
