In order to create awareness among the public about the increasing incidents of atrocities on women, “Sanmilita Nari Adhikar Suraksha Mancha” has started a two month long mass awareness programme in some districts of upper Assam. In association with “Vox-Pouli”, a local NGO, they staged a street play titled “Dharitrir Uchoponi” at Golaghat town on 19th December. In India a women is raped in every 26 minutes; a case of dowry death occurred in every 102 minutes etc. Talking to Assam Times, Vox-Populi’s President Partha J. He further added that people would react positively to this type of awareness programme.
