Forest Guard Fatally Attacked by Tiger in Orang National Park
Orang National Park, Assam: A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday evening, August 28, 2024, when a forest guard was fatally attacked by a Royal Bengal Tiger. Dhanmoni Deka, a 32-year-old forest guard, was patrolling the Bilpara range with a fellow guard when the attack took place.
According to reports, the tiger pounced on Deka and dragged him into the dense forest.Despite attempts by the other guard to scare the animal away with warning shots, the tiger did not relent. Deka's mutilated body was later found by forest officials approximately 3 kilometers from the Kheroni camp.
The incident has prompted concerns among local villagers and forest officials. DFO Pradipta Barua expressed concern that the tiger, having "tasted human blood," may now pose a greater threat. Efforts are underway to identify the tiger using pugmarks and camera traps to ensure the safety of future patrols.
The Darrang Superintendent of Police, Prakash Sonowal, added that while Deka was a casual home guard, the authorities would provide all necessary support to his family. Deka was from Nagaon-Hatimara village and had been married just seven months before his untimely death.
In the wake of the incident, local villagers have called for a thorough investigation and demanded Rs. 30 lakhs in ex-gratia compensation. They have also demanded government intervention to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.
AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two others for not wearing masks.

TANGLA: A devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.
Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs to the ground within minutes.

UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.

TANGLA, May 20: In an unfortunate turn of event a 32 year old reputed businessman Roshan Patowary an inhabitant of Ward No. 4 of Tangla town in Udalguri district was electrocuted to death while fitting an inverter battery at his residence at about 8 pm on Tuesday night.
