Assam Don Bosco University Celebrates 12th Convocation, Honors Outstanding Graduates

Guwahati, 23 September 2023: Assam Don Bosco University celebrated its 12th Convocation on Saturday, 23rd September, 2023, at Tapesia Campus Sonapur, Guwahati. The esteemed gathering included the Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, who graced the occasion as the university's visitor, along with Vice Chancellor Fr. (Dr) Jose Palley, Pro Vice Chancellor Fr. Joseph Nellnatt, Directors of Schools, Heads of Departments, faculty members, students, and dignitaries from across the country.

Addressing the graduating students, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to society, emphasizing the importance of innovation and dedication in shaping a better India. He applauded the successful implementation of the New Education Policy 2020 (NEP) by the University and acknowledged their efforts in teacher training and curriculum restructuring.

The Hon’ble Chancellor, Fr. Januarius Sangma, urged the graduates to view the world as an open canvas for their aspirations and emphasized the vital role they play in the nation's future, linking it to environmental stewardship and sustainability.

In his welcome address, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Fr. (Dr) Jose Palely, congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to embrace change, maintain passion for their pursuits, and uphold the values instilled during their academic journey.

A total of 1286 students were conferred degrees, with 555 receiving bachelor's degrees and 731 receiving master’s degrees across various disciplines. Additionally, 23 scholars were awarded doctoral degrees. The Global Online and Distance Education Programme saw 134 students receive degrees and 6 students obtain diplomas, attracting participants from around the world.

Notably, 36 outstanding graduates were awarded gold medals for their exemplary academic performance. The Chancellor’s and Vice Chancellor’s medals were presented to the top graduates in postgraduate and undergraduate courses, respectively. Special awards, including the ‘Father Stephen Mavely Gold Medal’ and ‘Shri JN Bawri Memorial Medal of Distinction’, were introduced, recognizing exceptional talent and commitment in academics, social roles, and extracurricular activities.

The convocation culminated with the closure announced by the Hon’ble Governor of Assam, followed by the National Anthem, marking a momentous conclusion to Convocation 2023.

GUWAHATI: KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi on Friday tore apart the NDA government at the Centre for removing the special category state status for the northeastern states. Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Gogoi said, "Assam is known for pathetic economic health where there is hardly any process of development. The state has been lagging behind on the infrastructure front. The Centre accorded special category status in 1969 to help the state get more fund. GUWAHATI: Brisk preparations are afoot in Guwahati for the BJP rally where party president Amit Shah is sounding panchayat poll bugle on Saturday. Party leaders have been closely monitoring the preparations for the rally where at least a dozen of party leaders are addressing the grass root level leaders and workers. A section of party workers has already arrived in the city on Friday and many others are on the way. GUWAHATI: Guwahati, the gateway to the north eastern region has become a safe route for gold smuggling these days. Security forces attached to the Northeast Frontier Railway seized twelve pieces of gold worth Rs 70 lakh from a New Delhi bound train on Friday. Acting on a tip off, a team of railway police raided two passengers from the Rajdhani Express just before it departing the city in the morning and seized the gold biscuits brought from Dimapur. Later, the duo were taken to the hospital since they brought the biscuits in the question in their rectum.     
KOKRAJHAR: Public properties worth several lakh along with many crucial documents reduced to ashes when a devastating the BTC secretariat caught fire in Kokrajhar on Friday. The fire which is believed to have originated from electric short circuit ravaged a portion of the ground floor in the wee hours. Five fire fighters took around four hours to bring the situation under control. The extent of damage has yet to be assessed.
