Webinar held: women entrepreneurship and women empowerment

Global Assamese Entrepreneurship Forum, held its monthly webinar on 25th September, 2022 on the topic “Women entrepreneurship and women empowerment”. The event was hosted by Anjana Bordoloi, Garima Saikia Garg and Dhirak Deka. A detailed discussion took place on women entrepreneurship, particularly focusing on the handloom industry of Assam. It was revealed that although 49% of the total handloom output of India is from Assam, the industry itself largely still remains unorganised, thus providing both a challenge and an opportunity for scaling up and modernisation. Various solutions including producer collaboration; private investor collaboration; pilot studies were presented following from these discussions.

Following on from the discussions, a GAEF Action Group has been created which is working with various clusters at the grassroots level. GAEF will provide mentoring and necessary resources to enhance and empower this industry's organisation, which can be a major revenue earner for Assam. The women associated with it will be empowered through workshops and webinars.
