NEADS launched a humanitarian response to floods hit communities in Assam

The unprecedented early floods in the state of Assam have affected more than 5 million people. Following a Rapid Need Assessment (RNA) in the district of Nagaon, NEADS has activated its humanitarian response among the hardest-hit communities in the crisis ravaged areas.

With Start Fund funding, NEADS has initiated humanitarian assistance among vulnerable people where the local organisation is reaching out with essential dry rations, non-food items, dignity and WASH support targeting a total of 1100 worst ravaged families in the Kathiyatoli development block in the district. Along with emergency relief aid, NEADS is trying to promote community level awareness and sensitization of Public Health Preparedness (PHP) to build capacities and resilience in communities at risk and reduce their impact, cope with and recover from adversity.

Tirtha Prasad Saikia, Joint Director and Response Lead of NEADS stated, "Realising the needs of the affected communities now, we are deploying our emergency team to the worst flood hit areas to proceed with early response. In response to the critical situation at this juncture it is very vital and hence, NEADS has been working closely with immediate and long term needs assessment in communities."

"With at-risk people, NEADS has been making every effort to initiate a faster and coordinated humanitarian response in reaching out to the hardest-hit communities currently living in floodplains, river islands and distant areas ravaged by floods. Our speed is everything to save lives when a crisis hits," Tirtha added.
